Continuing their collaboration of Rodgers and Hammerstein’s musicals, most recently The King and I, Opera Australia and The Gordon Frost Organisation are uniting again to produce the Tony Award-winning Broadway production for the first time in Australia, with support from the NSW Government’s tourism and major events agency Destination NSW.

Stage Directors and Choreographers Foundation has announced that Dani Barlow has joined its leadership team as Foundation Director. “I am thrilled to be joining SDCF as its next Director,” says Barlow. Barlow holds an MFA in Theater Management from the Yale School of Drama and a BA in Theatre and Business Administration from Muhlenberg College.

SDCF has announced that the Breakout Award will be awarded to Jenn Rose. The SDCF Awards, which will feature the presentation of the Breakout Award along with the previously announced Joe A. Callaway Awards, Gordon Davidson Award and Zelda Fichandler Award, will be hosted by Jack O’Brien virtually on February 8, 2021 at 8pm EST.

Kane Repertory Theatre Artistic Director Daniil Krimer and Managing Director Avery Bowne announce the selection of Hammaad Chaudry as the playwright for its new Multiplatform Commission. The yet to be titled commissioned play will be directed by Executive Producer Ansley Valentine and will premiere online March 29-April 11, 2021 with plans for an in-person production when it is safe to do so.

It's no secret that the state of the world has had a major impact on the theatre industry over the past year. Broadway, which usually brings in $14 billion to New York City's yearly revenue, has been shuttered since last March, leaving the futures of many artists and shows in limbo. While many of those productions move forward with plans to reopen when Broadway officially returns, some have already announced that they will not open again.

Lynne Meadow and Barry Grove have announced plans to produce two additional shows for Manhattan Theatre Club’s 2021-2022 season. In the winter of 2022, MTC will present the Broadway premiere of Skeleton Crew. Also in Winter 2022, Off-Broadway at New York City Center Stage I, MTC plans to present the world premiere of Prayer For The French Republic.

The Stage Directors and Choreographers Foundation (SDCF), the not-for-profit foundation of the theatrical union Stage Directors and Choreographers Society (SDC), announces that it has received a $200,000 gift from an anonymous donor to support its Emergency Assistance Fund.

SDCF has announced two host venues for its Lloyd Richards New Futures Residency program: Cornerstone Theater Company in Los Angeles; and Oregon Shakespeare Festival in Ashland, Oregon. The company’s respective artistic directors, Michael John Garcés and Nataki Garrett, will each mentor a visionary mid-career Black director or choreographer.

Lynne Meadow (Artistic Director) and Barry Grove (Executive Producer) just announced plans for four Manhattan Theatre Club productions in the 2021-2022 season.

The Drama League has announced the formation of its first Directors Council, featuring nationally-renowned directors Daniel Banks, Melia Bensussen, Christopher Burris, Jillian Carucci, Jennifer Chang, Desdemona Chiang, R.J. Cutler, Estefanía Fadul, Raz Golden, Brian Eugenio Herrera, Adam Immerwahr, Gwynn MacDonald, Tony Phelan and more.

Ken Barnett (Off-Broadway's Too Much Sun, Amazon's Mozart in The Jungle), Kyle Beltran (Broadway's The Cherry Orchard and In the Heights), and Emily Bergl (Dirty John, Shameless) will star in a virtual workshop of Ken Urban's new play Danger and Opportunity on October 28, 2020 as part of Kane Repertory Theatre's New Play Lab.

The digital workshop begins at 7:30 PM CT on Youtube and will remain available until November 1st at 7:30 PM CT. A live talkback with playwright Ken Urban, director Mark Brokaw, and Kane Repertory Theatre AD Daniil Krimer will follow the reading. All of our readings are free to watch, but a donation of $25 is suggested.

Tony Award winner Rondi Reed and Steppenwolf's Francis Guinan will star in a world premiere virtual reading of Adam Szymkowicz's Such Small Hands, directed by Artistic Director of Northlight Theatre BJ Jones on October 14, 2020, at 7:30 PM, as part of Kane Repertory Theatre's New Play Lab.

Rondi Reed (Steppenwolf Ensemble/Tony Winner) and Francis Guinan (Steppenwolf Ensemble) will star in a world premiere virtual reading of Adam Szymkowicz's a??Such Small Hands ona?? October 14th. The performance is part of Kane Repertory Theatre's a??New Play Lab. The reading will be directed by BJ Jones (AD Northlight Theatre).

Artistic Directors Douglas Aibel and Sarah Stern have announced that John J. Caswell, Jr. is the recipient of the 2020-21 Paula Vogel Playwriting Award. Caswell will be presented with the award at The Vineyard's reimagined Emerging Artists Virtual Salon on Wednesday, October 21 at 5:00 PM ET via Zoom.
