The Season of Concern Managing Director Board of Directors has announced the appointment of the organization’s new Managing Director, Christopher Pazdernik. 

Season of Concern Managing Director Michael Ryczek and the Board of Directors have announced that Ryczek will step down from his position, effective April 1, 2025. Ryczek joined the Board in 1994, served as Board President from 2004-2010 and has served as Managing Director since 2018.

Season of Concern, the emergency fund for Chicago theater artists, will present a one-night-only benefit - CLUEBARET!, a holiday cabaret featuring the cast of Mercury Theater Chicago’s CLUE.

Season of Concern has canceled its benefit performance of JERRY’S GIRLS that was scheduled at Victory Gardens Theatre on Monday, June 27, 2022. Several people associated with the show have tested positive for COVID.

Season of Concern, the emergency fund for Chicago theater artists, will present a one-night-only benefit performance of Jerry’s Girls, with music and lyrics by Jerry Herman, concepts by Larry Alford, Wayne Cilento, and Jerry Herman, direction by Ken-Matt Martin, and musical direction by Nigel D. Robinson. 

In life, Malcolm Ewen, the long-time production stage manager at Steppenwolf Theatre Company and a decades-long member of the board of Season of Concern, was a tireless advocate for Chicago’s theater community. In addition to his distinguished career at Steppenwolf his leadership presence was felt from The Goodman Theatre in Chicago to Weston Playhouse in Vermont. 

The Weston Playhouse Theatre Company will hold a memorial service for Malcolm Ewen on Sunday, August 4th at 7:30 pm at the Weston Playhouse, 12 Park Street, in Weston. 

Weston Playhouse is deeply saddened to announce that ?Malcolm Ewen?, Weston Playhouse Theatre Company Founding Director, beloved colleague, and friend, has passed after a long battle with cancer.

Mary McColl, Executive Director of Actors' Equity Association, has issued the following statement about Malcolm Ewen, a longtime Chicago-based stage manager who served as a National Councillor representing members on the Central Regional Board of Actors' Equity. Ewen passed away last night surrounded by loved ones following a battle with cancer. 

Steppenwolf Theatre Company announced today the addition of longtime stage managerMalcolm Ewen into the world-renowned Steppenwolf ensemble. Ewen has worked at Steppenwolf since 1987 and has stage managed more than 40 shows and taken four Steppenwolf productions to Broadway-including The Grapes of Wrath and Edward Albee's Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf? both of which won Tony Awards.

Steppenwolf Theatre Company presents the Chicago premiere production of Familiar written by Danai Gurira (The Walking Dead, Black Panther, Broadway's Eclipsed) and directed by Danya Taymor, who helmed Steppenwolf's powerful 2017 production of Pass Over. As previously announced, this fiercely funny production features ensemble members Celeste M. Cooper (Nyasha) and Ora Jones (Marvelous Chinyaramwira), who appeared together in Steppenwolf's The Doppelganger (an international farce) last season. Rounding out the cast are Cheryl Lynn Bruce (Anne), Erik Hellman (Chris), Lanise Antoine Shelley, (Tendikayi), Luigi Sottile (Brad), Jacqueline Williams (Margaret Munyewa) and Cedric Young (Donald Chinyaramwira).

The Weston Playhouse Theatre is thrilled to present the five-time Tony Award-winning musical Fun Home to its new flexible 140-seat Second Stage, Weston Playhouse at Walker Farm. Refreshingly honest and wildly innovative, Fun Home is based on Vermont author and cartoonist Alison Bechdel's acclaimed graphic memoir. Audiences will follow Bechdel at three different life stages as she grows and grapples with her uniquely dysfunctional family, her sexuality, and her father's secrets.

Oliver K. Olsen, chair of the Board of Directors of the Weston Playhouse Theatre, announces today that Susanna Gellert has been chosen by the Board of Directors to be the company's new Executive Artistic Director. Gellert, currently Associate Producer and Director of the Studio at New York's acclaimed Theatre for a New Audience (TFANA), comes to Weston with fifteen years of experience in New York and regional theatre and a long-standing relationship with Vermont, which has been her second home for the past seven years. Ms. Gellert's appointment is the result of a 9-month national search led by Management Consultants for the Arts (www.mcaonline.us).

The Board of Directors of the Weston Playhouse Theatre Company announces the establishment of The Ewen-Fort-Stettler Fund, honoring founding Producing Directors Malcolm Ewen, Tim Fort and Steve Stettler and their contributions to Weston, to Vermont, and to the American Theatre.

Iconic star of The Office actor and comedian Rainn Wilson will return to the stage in Steppenwolf Theatre Company's production ofThe Doppelg nger (An International Farce). Wilson leads the cast as Thomas Irdley/Jimmy in the world premiere production.
