Rising Phoenix Repertory has announced that Larry Powell is the recipient of this year’s Cornelia Street American Playwriting Award. The honor is presented to an emerging playwright of exceptional work ethic, character, and talent. 

Skylight Theatre Company begins its 2021 season of Skylight LIVE April 24, 2021; with Robin Gerber’s THE SHOT starring the incomparable Sharon Lawrence. This behind-the-scenes story of The Washington Post publisher Katherine Graham is directed by Michelle Joyner and produced by SPARKS Theatricals. IAMA Theatre Company has selected Larry Powell as the 2021 recipient of the company's annual Rhimes Unsung Voices Playwriting Commission. Sponsored by award-winning writer and producer Shonda Rhimes (Grey's Anatomy, Scandal), the commission, now in its fourth year, was created to help grow and nourish budding playwrights and artists with emphasis on cultural inclusion and the goal to showcase fresh, creative, thought-provoking work.

Playwright/actor Larry Powell has been making the very most of his time in these crazy quarantine circumstances. Larry has two of his plays opening online this week - THE RECLAMATION OF MY BLACK ASS IMAGINATION: AN AWAKENING (as part of Greenway Court Theatre's 20th anniversary season opener IF I SHOULD WAKE); as well as, THE GAZE... NO HOMO for the Fountain Theatre.

The Gaze... No Homo will begin streaming on Friday, Nov. 20, with episodes four, five and six going online Friday, Nov. 27; episodes seven, eight and nine on Friday, Dec. 4; and the final three episodes becoming available on Friday, Dec. 11.

Greenway Arts Alliance announced today that Greenway Court Theatre is celebrating its 20th Anniversary Season. The award-winning and critically-acclaimed theatre will present the World Premiere of IF I SHOULD WAKE, a collection of eight monologues by an intrepid ensemble of contemporary playwrights representing the wide diversity of Greenway Court Theatre's many communities.

Dixon Place HOT! Festival presents an exclusive virtual performance of an extended excerpt from THE PRIDE OF LIONS directed and produced by Lovell Holder with a portion of proceeds benefiting The Okra Project. The performance will debut on Friday, July 31.
