“Hello, Dolly!” is a crown jewel of American Musical Theatre. “Dolly” is a jubilant blend of romantic comedy, brassy optimism, and showstopping choreography. Opening night for the White Theatre production of “Dolly” was so surprising and memorable that it earned itself a five-star rating from this reviewer and from its audience writ large.
The strength of this production is unquestionably the superior musical treatments, including an excellent orchestra of twenty conducted by Matt Richardson. Each of the leading characters is about as musically strong as it gets.

Running now at the White Theatre inside the Jewish Community Center is a production of a new musical dealing with the serious subjects of celebrity, gender identity and social intolerance run wild that somehow still offers the audience a real feel-good experience.

Shawnee Mission Park’s “Theatre in the Park,” marks the season with an oddly appropriate July production of “Irving Berlin’s White Christmas.” The item up for view and review is a very nice production of Irving Berlin classic songs and the familiar tale based on a 1954 movie of the same name. There is significantly more Irving Berlin music in the staged musical than in the 1954 film.
