Making her Feinstein's at the Nikko debut, Lisa will perform Broadway classics by Stephen Sondheim, Andrew Lloyd Webber, Rodgers & Hammerstein, Irving Berlin, Leonard Bernstein, as well as a selection of songs from up-and-coming musical theatre composers. On Saturday, August 26, at 8 p.m. soprano Kristine Opolais and bass-baritone Sir Bryn Terfel join BSO Music Director Andris Nelsons, the Boston Symphony Orchestra, and the Tanglewood Festival Chorus for an evening of opera and song,including Act II of Puccini's Tosca. In addition to Ms. Opolais in the title role and Sir Bryn as Scarpia, the Tanglewood Festival performance of Tosca will feature tenor Russell Thomas as Cavaradossi, bass-baritone Sir Bryn Terfel as Scarpia, tenor Matthew DiBattista as Spoletta, and baritone Douglas Williams as Sciarrone (in his BSO debut). Ms. Opolais and Sir Bryn recently performed Tosca in concert together at the Llangollen International Musical Eisteddfod on July 4, 2017, under conductor Gareth Jones. (more...)

At 9:00 PM tonight, Wednesday, July 5, Brevard Music Center (BMC) begins a new collaboration with New York City's WQXR and its longstanding and distinguished Young Artists Showcase—a WQXR weekly radio show that since 1978 has sought out and displayed the talents of young emerging artists. WQXR is New York City's only classical music radio station, broadcasting live on 105.9 FM. Part Two of BMC's appearance on Young Artists Showcase, hosted by veteran Robert Sherman, will occur next Wednesday, July 12 at 9 PM.   (more...)

National Endowment for the Arts Chairman Jane Chu has approved more than $82 million to fund local arts projects and partnerships in the NEA's second major funding announcement for fiscal year 2017.  Included in this announcement is an Art Works award of $10,000 to Brevard Music Center (BMC) to support the 2017 production of the opera, Street Scene, a featured part of BMC's 2017 Kurt Weill Festival.  The NEA received 1,728 Art Works applications and will make 1,029 grants ranging from $10,000 to $100,000.
