Amas Musical Theatre will present “Sol of El Barrio: The AfroLatinidad Connection” a celebration of AfroLatinidad history in New York City. Created, hosted and directed by Maria Torres, the event will take place on Sunday, October 3 at 5pm at Theater 555 (555 West 42nd Street @ 11th Avenue).

Salisha Thomas (Beautiful on Broadway), in association with the Broadway Podcast Network, has announced The Salisha Show, a new Broadway podcast which features actors and other professionals and how they got to where they are. The Salisha Show is hosted by Thomas and will be available for weekly downloads beginning today, Wednesday, September 15.

Need some help predicting the winners? I have attempted to predict about half of these categories (mainly the musical theatre categories since I was not able to see the majority of the plays in the 2019-2020 season), and have provided some rationale for each category. Of course, all the nominees deserve awards, but only one can win in each.

Lin-Manuel Miranda and Karen Olivo have joined in on the new In the Heights trend sweeping through TikTok! The pair, who originated the roles of Usnavi and Vanessa in the original Broadway production of In the Heights, filmed themselves lip-syncing to 'Blackout' from the film, with Miranda singing Vanessa's part and Olivo singing Usnavi's.

I've been thinking about Newsies a lot this week. At its core, it is a show about activists fighting for change and battling against the status quo. Obviously, this is a fairly pressing and urgent idea, this week especially. It tells us that we should raise our voices to protest unjust systems, and that if we hold out, important bounds forward can be made to better things for ourselves and others.
