Joined by Pat O’Leary on bass and Mark McLean on drums, the dynamic duo delivered a genre-spanning set that moved effortlessly through jazz, pop, Brazilian rhythms, rock-n-roll, country, and R&B. BroadwayWorld is saddened to report the passing of actress, dancer, and Broadway performer Taina Elg, who passed away earlier this month in a care facility in Helsinki, Finland. She was 95 years old.

Audra McDonald and the company of Broadway's Gypsy, are set to visit The Late Show with Stephen Colbert today, May 22 for a performance of the Tony-nominated production of the musical.

Songbook Sundays, created and hosted by Deborah Grace Winer celebrating the American Songbook will continue at Jazz at Lincoln Center’s Dizzy’s Club with Fats and The Duke.

Conductor Keith Lockhart and the Boston Pops set the mood for the recent Opening Night at Pops, featuring the luminous Cynthia Erivo, with a rhythmic “The Club” from Lin-Manuel Miranda’s “In the Heights” and the rousing “Gotta Dance” medley from “Jerome Robbins’ Broadway.”

Three of this season’s plays and two of this season’s musicals are already getting revived for the second or third time this century! Twenty-five years into the 21st century and Broadway has already seen multiple revivals of Glengarry Glen Ross, Our Town, Romeo and Juliet, Gypsy, and Sunset Boulevard. 

The Argenta Contemporary Theatre in North Little Rock spotlighted Arkansas theatre royalty with its bold and emotionally rich production of Gypsy: A Musical Fable, which captivated audiences from April 9–19. This golden-age musical, considered one of Broadway’s most enduring masterpieces, was brought to life with striking precision and artistry that riveled any Broadway show. With a book by Arthur Laurents, score by Jule Styne, and lyrics by a young Stephen Sondheim, Gypsy demands both powerhouse performances and thoughtful direction—and Argenta delivered on all fronts. 

San Francisco’s esteemed Merola Opera Program will open its 2025 Summer Festival with A Grand Night for Singing – An American Songfest, an intimate voice and piano recital that highlights the rich musical history of the United States.
