BWW Review: BOOK OF MORMON Rings the Doorbell at Clowes Memorial Hall
by The Marriage Matinee - Dec 20, 2018

The assumption when you take your seat for THE BOOK OF MORMON is that you will laugh, perhaps even laugh a lot, but that is far from the truth. You are much more likely to be in physical pain from full-belly laughing for nearly the entire show. Trey Parker and Matt Stone did an exceptional job using humor as a vehicle for some excellent life lessons.

THE DROWNING GIRLS Makes for Frightfully Chilling This Halloween
by Julie Musbach - Oct 10, 2018

Ghastly. Haunting. Stunning. Three Edwardian-era ghosts rise from the clutches of their clawfoot bathtubs, drenched in water, to tell the haunting story of their murder by one man: George Joseph Smith … their husband. This is the premise of The Drowning Girls- based on the true-life story of 'The Brides of the Bathtub'- the latest play at the Great Canadian Theatre Company written by the trio of Beth Graham, Charlie Tomlinson, and Daniela Vlaskalic. Director, TACTICS Founder, and GCTC's former Metcalf Foundation Artistic Direction Intern Bronwyn Steinberg leads an all-Ottawa powerhouse cast: Katie Ryerson (Ordinary Days, Generous and Janet Wilson Meets the Queen), Sarah Finn (This is War), and Jacqui du Toit (Hottentot Venus).

BWW Review: BOOK OF MORMON Remains Spectacularly Hilarious
by Perry Tannenbaum - Jul 27, 2018

Some of the jests of THE BOOK OF MORMON are starting to show some wear, but the buffoonery, vulgarity, and bold tastelessness still satisfy, and the dance ensemble on this third Charlotte go-round - along with Casey Nicholaw's choreography seem more brilliant than ever.

BWW Review: THE BOOK OF MORMON Returns to Columbus and They're Still Something Incredible
by Christina Mancuso - May 27, 2018

Hello, again.  Columbus was glutton for punishment when THE BOOK OF MORMON returned to the Ohio Theatre for another blasphemous yet gut-wrenchingly hilarious week of musical theatre genius.  This time, the audience was snickering and giggling while they shuffled in their seats before the show even began. They knew they were about to embark on a show that can say "F-You, God" and still have the Mormon church take out a full page ad in the Playbill.  This is the brilliance of South Park writers, Trey Parker and Matt Stone, along with AVENUE Q co-creator Robert Lopez, who can cleverly win over people of all faith by poking fun at the Mormons with crass language that borders sacrilege. Why? Because at its core is a heartfelt story of brotherhood and self-discovery with lovable young men finding their way in a world ruled by uniformity and restriction.

BWW Review: Hilarious Touring Production of THE BOOK OF MORMON Packed With Talent
by Frank Benge - Apr 19, 2018

THE BOOK OF MORMON is a satirical musical with book, lyrics, and music by Trey Parker, Robert Lopez and Matt Stone. Parker and Stone, the creators of the long running Comedy Central animated series South Park, along with Lopez, the co-composer/co-lyricist of Avenue Q and Frozen, have created a show that simultaneously deconstructs the American musical while paying loving homage to it. THE BOOK OF MORMON is the story of two young Mormon missionaries who are sent to Uganda on their first mission. The only thing the two boys have in common is their naive outlook on life. When they try to spread 'the word' among the locals they discover that religion is the last thing the villagers are concerned about.

by Michael Quintos - Mar 28, 2018

One thing is for certain about THE BOOK OF MORMON: this memorable, whip-smart, and downright gut-busting Broadway musical is still one of the funniest---if not the funniest---musical ever to exist in the 21st Century. BWW Review: THE BOOK OF MORMON at Kravis Center For The Performing Arts
by John Lariviere - Nov 26, 2017

The musical, The Book of Mormon, which lampoons both organized religion and traditional musical theatre, was conceived by Trey Parker, Matt Stone (creators of South Park), and Robert Lopez. This hysterically funny show is not for the faint of heart. While it comes with a parental advisory for explicit language, it should also come with a general caution to all for its possibly offensive representation of organized religion. However, as ridiculous and potentially offensive as some of this show may be, The Book of Mormon is a delectable guilty pleasure!
