Little Steven, aka Steven Van Zandt, is commemorating today's 30th anniversary of Nelson Mandela's historic release from a South African prison after 27 years in captivity with the announcement that his 1985 landmark protest album, Sun City, by Artists United Against Apartheid, the extraordinary supergroup brought together by Van Zandt, producer Arthur Baker and journalist Danny Schechter to fight racial injustice in South Africa, will be released on vinyl for the first time since its initial release 35 years ago. The long-out-of-print LP joins five additional classic albums from Van Zandt making all of Little Steven's records from his early career once again available on vinyl. 

The California Roots Music and Arts Festival has become synonymous with the North American reggae and roots music scene, but for years the event has also featured some of the biggest names in hip hop. The 2015 edition had the legendary Roots headline and Cypress Hill also perform that year. Minneapolis' Atmosphere has become a staple at the festival with 2020 being their fourth year. Cali Roots has also featured Rhymesayers labelmates Brother Ali and Dilated Peoples. 2018 included the Bay Area legend E-40, who brought his “hyphy” style to the stage and 2017 had old school revivalists Jurassic 5 getting the crowd going before the epic set from Nas blew everyone away that year.

After two impressive rounds of artist announcements featuring some of the biggest names in reggae, hip hop, and roots music, the California Roots Music and Arts Festival is proud to announce its third and final wave of artists. The eleventh edition of the event taking place May 22-24, 2020 at the Monterey County Fair and Event Center, has added Stick Figure, Sublime with Rome, Pepper, Common Kings, Nahko And Medicine For The People, Through The Roots, Nattali Rize, Natural Vibrations, Kash'd Out, and Sensi Trails to the already stellar lineup. Nancy Carol Lewis Jones died peacefully on December 20, 2019 at Mt. Sinai Hospital in New York City after a short illness.  She was born on the February 20, 1943 in Detroit to Mack and Carol Edith (nee Schulz) Lewis. She attended Cooke Elementary, Redford High, and Michigan State University, where she majored in TV and Radio Production. At MSU she was Campus Correspondent for Billboard and first became seriously interested in the British Music scene when she went to review a concert of The Dave Clark Five in Lansing.

On July 27th a dedicated trio of musicians, House of Waters, journeys to Elm Street Cultural Arts Village's Lantern Series. The tenth and final installment in the inaugural outdoor concert series displays the mingling of musical genres from all around the world, including West-African, jazz, psychedelic, indie rock, classical, and more.

On February 25th, the eight-time GRAMMY-winning musician Stephen “Ragga” Marley will kick off an intimate acoustic U.S. tour in support of his latest 5-track EP, One Take: Acoustic Jams, out November 2018 on the Marley family's Ghetto Youths International imprint. For one month, the 23-city run will span the South, Southwest and West Coast.
