Broadway Dance Lab will launch its first summer Choreography Intensive today, welcoming 10 young choreographers, ages 18-29, for a one-week immersion in the art of theatre dance-making. The faculty roster includes BDL Artistic Director Josh Prince, Jeff Calhoun, JoAnn M. Hunter, Al Blackstone, Marc Bruni, and more. The program will run through August 5 at Baryshnikov Arts Center.

Eight outstanding educators from schools and performing arts centers around the U.S. will work one-on-one with Broadway greats at the 9th Annual FREDDIE G FELLOWSHIP July 11th - 14th. The event has once again been underwritten by Myrna and Freddie ("G") Gershon, Co-Chairman of the global theatrical licensor Music Theatre International (MTI). The four days of classes and activities honor instructors and teachers who are working to make a difference for their students and communities through the process of staging musical theatre productions in their schools and educational theatre groups. In addition to the all-expense paid visit to New York, each of the teachers' schools receives $5,000 from Freddie and Myrna. The teachers are empowered to identify and select how their respective school's theatre program can best utilize the funds.
One person who we have to thank for the influencing the tradition of summer stock theatre is none other than John Kenley, whose legacy lives on today. From the 1940s - 1990s, John Kenley championed summer theatre and brought shows to small towns across America.

The Jimmy Awards have just announced the industry coaches for the tenth annual awards ceremony on Monday, June 25th at 7:30PM at the Minskoff Theatre. The six coaches - Lisa Brescia, MaryAnn Hu, Adam Kantor, Howard McGillin, Natalie Weiss, And Schele Williams - will mentor the 80 high school students from across America who will compete for the Jimmy Award for Best Performance by an Actor and Actress.
Before a sellout crowd of over 1,000 at the Rose Hall Jazz at Lincoln Center, Covenant House honored Broadway stars Audra McDonald and Capathia Jenkins for their commitment to the young people at Covenant House at A Night of Broadway Stars that raised over $2 million to help end youth homelessness.
