We're excited to bring back Didn't Hurt written and performed by Rodney Decroo, directed by TJ Dawe, Where the Quiet Queers Are by Amplify Choral Theatre, Ragamuffin Productions Legoland, Power Pause Productions original world premiere The Morning After with Pam & Paula, How I Killed My Nan a storytelling/standup journey performed by Dion Arnold and the smash hit Monster Theatre's No Tweed Too Tight: Another Grant Canyon Mystery written and performed by Ryan Gladstone. Fresh from the Fringe, these artists are ready to pluck your heartstrings, knock you sideways, and make you laugh.

I'm all for efforts to create new ensemble musicals in tune with our times. RIDE THE CYCLONE was composed in 2008 by Canadian artists Brooke Maxwell and Jacob Richmond, played at the Toronto Fringe Festival, and has bumped across Canada and the US (including New York, Chicago, Atlanta, and Seattle) since then, collecting a fan club as it goes. Funny and tuneful, it has a dark but intriguing premise, a theatrically spooky setting, and some strong musical moments. I just wish it traded less on tired stereotypes. Warning: spoilers ahead.

Rehearsals are underway for the Alliance Theatre's upcoming production of the critically acclaimed new musical, RIDE THE CYCLONE.

Ride the Cylcone, this season's dark and hilarious co-production between The 5th Avenue Theatreand ACT - A Contemporary Theatre, is now in preview performances and has its official opening night this Thursday, March 22 at ACT - A Contemporary Theatre. The award-winning director and choreographer Rachel Rockwell has continued to refine and explore the world of Ride the Cyclone with its writers Brooke Maxwell and Jacob Richmond, returning to direct after working on its two previous U.S. productions in Chicago and Off Broadway. This co-production, which is the eighth collaboration between The 5th and ACT, will showcase new developments to the script and score. At least one third of the script has been newly created for this production, which is in addition to countless small but crucial tweaks and refinements. These new developments have continued to define and shape the world that the Saint Cassian High School Chamber Choir inhabits onstage.

ACT and The 5th Avenue Theatre's current joint production, 'Ride the Cyclone', now playing at ACT, is one of those quirky little musicals that on the surface should not work. I didn't really know what to expect going in but based on what it is, it's problematic at best. Fortunately for us the brilliant writing team of Brooke Maxwell and Jacob Richmond have done it in such a way that it definitely does work and then some. Allow me to explain.

The 5th Avenue Theatre has announced an incredible seven-show lineup for its 2017/18 season, which includes a mix of regional premieres, contemporary hits, a classic, a national tour direct from Broadway and a thrilling world premiere.

MCC Theater presents the thrilling New York City premiere of the new musical Ride the Cyclone, which marks just the third musical in MCC's now-iconic 30-year history of producing new works for the American theater. With book, music and lyrics by Jacob Richmond and Brooke Maxwell, Ride the Cyclone had its celebrated U.S. premiere in 2015 at Chicago Shakespeare Theater under the direction and choreography of Rachel Rockwell, who returns for the MCC production.

For a musical about the accidental death of six teenagers and a contest to select just one of them to return to life, Brooke Maxwell and Jacob Richmond's Ride the Cyclone, mounted by MCC after development in Canadian cabarets and a successful Chicago run, is curiously lacking in any kind of emotion or tension.

Previews began earlier this month for MCC Theater's New York City premiere of the new musical Ride the Cyclone, which marks just the third musical in MCC's now-iconic 30-year history of producing new works for the American theater. Before opening night, however, the musical will welcome a new cast member.
