Members Of Actors' Equity Ratify New Agreement With The Broadway League

Actors' Equity Association, the national labor union representing professional actors and stage managers working in live theatre, has announced that members have voted to ratify the Production Contract with the Broadway League -- the last step required to approve new terms for the agreement used on Broadway and for some tours.

The Stage Managers' Association (SMA) presented its annual Del Hughes Awards for Lifetime Achievement in the Art of Stage Management to three stage managers from the worlds of Broadway, Off-Broadway, Touring, Regional Theatre, and Opera - Rich Costabile, Barbara Donner, and Mary K Klinger. In addition to the three Lifetime Achievement Awards, the SMA recognized Janet Friedman with The Founders Award, a special recognition for her many years of service to the SMA and for embodying the values expressed by the Founders of the SMA. The event was celebrated at Connelly's Times Square on September 23rd, 2019. The SMA thanks Broadway Cares/Equity Fights Aids for their leading sponsorship of the event.
Broadway Stage Management Symposium (BSMS) Announces Panels & Speakers

The fifth annual Broadway Stage Management Symposium (BSMS) will feature over thirty Broadway Stage Managers and Professionals in an incredible array of panels addressing important aspects of the art and craft of stage management. As the leaders of a theatrical company, stage managers are responsible for the mounting, maintenance and running of a show. They deal with a wide variety of issues and need to be well-versed in both production processes and people skills. The BSMS provides a unique forum to engage with top professionals on numerous topics important to stage managers at all levels.
Equity Members Conclude Arts Advocacy Day On Capitol Hill To Protect NEA Funding

New York Representatives from Actors' Equity Association joined the 32nd Annual Arts Advocacy Day meeting in Washington, D.C. to protect the bipartisan National Endowment for the Arts. The meetings were part of a multi-day national arts action summit meeting that united arts advocates from across the country.
Actors' Equity Announces Results Of National Council Election

Actors' Equity Association, the union which represents more than 51,000 professional stage actors and stage managers, announced the results of the 2018 National Council election. In total, 55 Council seats across all three regions and representing three (3) categories (principal actor, chorus actor and stage manager) were filled, effective immediately.

Mira Monte High School Students Inducted Into International Thespian Society

At Mira Monte High School, in Bakersfield, California, 12 students recently became members of an international honor society, thanks to a new grant program that is covering the initial costs of membership. The students were inducted into the International Thespian Society (ITS), the honor organization for high school and middle school theatre students. To earn induction each student had to accumulate 100 hours of excellent work in theatre.
Six Schools Receive Grants from New National Program

The Educational Theatre Association announced the award of the first New Troupe Charter Grants, just 30 days after the program was launched. The program is dedicated to bringing honor and recognition to theatre students in financially challenged communities through access to the International Thespian Society. The initial gift to fund the program has been made by Tams-Witmark Music Library.
