The world premiere musical Jagged Little Pill tells an original story about a family grappling with uncomfortable truths about many of the urgent issues deeply affecting our communities and our world today. It is inspired by the themes and emotions laid bare in Alanis Morissette's Grammy Award-winning album that introduced beloved anthems including "Ironic," "You Oughta Know," and "Hand in My Pocket."
The Jagged Little Pill cast features Elizabeth Stanley (On the Town and Million Dollar Quartet on Broadway) as Mary Jane; Sean Allan Krill(Honeymoon in Vegas and On a Clear Day You Can See Forever) as Steve; newcomer Celia Gooding as Frankie; Derek Klena (Anastasia andThe Bridges of Madison County on Broadway) as Nick; and Lauren Patten (Fun Home on Broadway) as Jo.
Ensemble members include Jane Bruce, John Cardoza, Antonio Cipriano, Kathryn Gallagher, Laurel Harris, Logan Hart, Max Kumangai, Soph Menas, Sean Montgomery, Nora Schell, Whitney Sprayberry, Kei Tsuruharatani, and Ebony Williams. Yeman Josiah Brown and Kelsey Orem are swings.
"A lot of people associate an empowering release of anger with Alanis Morissette's music, but she is also so deeply interested in what it means to heal in the presence of other human beings, and that is what our musical is about," says Paulus.
"This collaborative development process has been so electrifying and beautiful," says Cody. "I've loved Alanis' music since I was sixteen years old, and it is the ultimate privilege to work from it."
"Working with this masterful creative team to develop Jagged Little Pill into a musical is a dream come true," says Morissette. "These artists are expanding this music to tell a timely, breathtaking story with brazenness, vision, and complexity. I have been moved, honored, and changed by their collaborative hearts and powerful work."
The Jagged Little Pill creative team includes scenic design by Tony Award nominee Riccardo Hernandez (The White Card and twenty other productions at A.R.T., Indecent and others on Broadway); costume design by Emily Rebholz (Prometheus Bound at A.R.T., Dear Evan Hansen and others on Broadway); lighting design by Tony Award nominee Justin Townsend (The Blue Flower and others at A.R.T, American Psycho and others on Broadway); sound design by Tony Award nominee Jonathan Deans (Waitress and others at A.R.T. and on Broadway); and video/projection design by Tony Award winner Finn Ross (Crossing and others at A.R.T., The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night and others on Broadway).
