This spring Phoenix Dance Theatre will embark on a UK tour with a brand-new mixed programme – BELONGING: Loss. Legacy. Love. The powerfully visceral and thought-provoking triple bill explores the nuances of human experience by three exciting international dance makers. 

Stephanie Mohr’s new production of Charlotte Perkins Gilman’s feminist novella The Yellow Wallpaper is described as a “genre-defying production blending theatre, dance, live video and sound” - no pressure then!

The Crown Jewels marks writer Simon Nye’s, who is best known as the writer for Men Behaving Badly, West End debut. This historical heist, based on a true story, centres around King Charles II and the plot to steal the crown jewels and features a cast made up of some of the best British comedians including Al Murray (in his stage debut), Mel Giedroyc and Neil Morrissey.

BroadwayWorld UK had the chance to attend a rehearsal of Simon Nye’s The Crown Jewels. We were treated to some performances from the cast, a Q&A with writer Simon Nye and director Sean Foley, and the opportunity to speak with some members of the cast and crew about the show.

The Royal Shakespeare Company (RSC) has released new artwork for its forthcoming production of As You Like It, directed by Omar Elerian, which runs in the Royal Shakespeare Theatre, Stratford-upon-Avon between 17 June – 5 August 2023.

For one week only, Birds of Paradise Theatre Company will screen a new film work featuring the astonishing Portuguese disabled dancer Diana Niepce which was made across the latter stages of the pandemic. 

This side-splittingly funny, fast-paced comedy tells the story of Henry Holland, an unassuming bank clerk who dreams of stealing the van full of gold bullion he drives across London each day. When Henry learns that his new lodger makes Eiffel Tower paperweights out of lead, he devises a plan to make his dream a reality. It’s a golden opportunity to pull off the crime of the century, they’d have to be fools to mess it up …

Director and CEO of Fuel, Kate McGrath has announced the company's first shows for 2023. A UK tour of Hannah Lavery's new play Protest directed by Natalie Ibu will begin performances at Northern Stage in May followed by dates in Scotland and England.

The Onassis Foundation presents Week 6 of ENTER, their series of new works commissioned from artists in various parts of the world, created in their homes in 120 hours or less and drawing on experiences through the COVID-19 pandemic and its many transformations of life as we know it. 

Casting details have been announced for the Royal Shakespeare Company's (RSC) 2020 Summer production of The Winter's Tale, which plays in the Royal Shakespeare Theatre from 28 March 2020. Directed by RSC Deputy Artistic Director, Erica Whyman, the production will be cross-cast with The Comedy of Errors (from 25 April 2020) and Pericles (from 15 August 2020). All three plays are sponsored by Darwin Escapes.

I've relished the blank stares I've received when discussing this project. The only way to get people onside has been to perform it at any opportunity - in try-outs at art galleries, pubs, clubs, an orangery, theatres. Anywhere just to get it on its hind legs and show people that the poet Christopher Reid's writing can connect instantly with an audience; his wit, clarity, sumptuous phrasing, high emotion and, I believe, superhuman ability to express feelings which most of us cannot articulate. I'd read his publications A Scattering and The Song Of Lunch in 2010, and immediately thought they could be performed live.

Tickets are on sale from Monday 14 October 2019 for Sadler's Wells' Spring 2020 season, which features three world premieres, seven UK premieres, and 12 Sadler's Wells Productions and co-productions, as well as a host of new creative partnerships involving artists from all over the world.

The Menier Chocolate Factory today announces a major revival of David Hare's The Bay at Nice. Richard Eyre directs Martin Hutson, Ophelia Lovibond, David Rintoul and Penelope Wilton. The production opens on 19 March, with previews from 14 March, and runs until 4 May. Tickets go on sale to supporters of the Menier on 21 January, with public booking opening at 9am on 28 January.

Eugene O'Neill's Pulitzer Prize-winning autobiographical family drama, Long Day's Journey Into Night, is widely regarded as one of the most powerful American plays of the 20th century. The acclaimed Bristol Old Vic production-which premiered in 2016 as the centerpiece of its 250th anniversary season-is helmed by award-winning theater and film director Sir Richard Eyre, and features unforgettable performances by stage, screen, Tony- and Oscar-winning actor Jeremy Irons and renowned stage, screen, Oscar- and Olivier-nominated actress Lesley Manville.
