Submissions Begin 5/2 for the $50,000 Fred Ebb Award

The Fred Ebb Award will recognize excellence in musical theatre songwriting, by a lyricist, composer, or songwriting team that has not yet achieved significant commercial success. The award is meant to encourage and support aspiring songwriters to create new works for the musical theatre. The prize includes a $50,000 award.

Some of Broadway's finest take over Sarofim Hall stage on Thursday, April 28 to salute one of Broadway's most prolific writing teams, John Kander and Fred Ebb, during Theatre Under The Stars' 2005 American Musical Theatre Awards. The longest-running music-and-lyrics partnership in Broadway musical history, Kander and Ebb have created such revered musicals as Chicago, Cabaret, Kiss of the Spider Woman and Steel Pier, among others.

The Fred Ebb Foundation (Mitchell Bernard, Trustee) in association with the Roundabout Theatre Company (Todd Haimes, Artistic Director) are pleased to announce the inauguration of the Fred Ebb Award for aspiring musical theatre songwriters. The award is named in honor of the late award-winning lyricist Fred Ebb.

Tony-Winner Fred Ebb Passes Away at 72

Fred Ebb, passed away on September 11, 2004 at the age of 72 from a heart attack. Funeral services are expected to be held on Tuesday.
