On April 9th, an orchestra more than 80 musicians strong takes the stage for the Brevard Symphony Orchestra's 2015-2016 season finale. Music Director and Principal Conductor Christopher Confessore leads the BSO for the sixth subscription of the season.
On Tuesday, April 5 at 8 PM, the Musicians of Lenox Hill, under the artistic direction of Soo-Kyung Park, will perform at the Temple Israel of the City of New York located at 112 East 75th Street in New York City. The program features Antonio Battolomeo Bruni's Duo No. 2 in g minor for Violin and Viola, Op. 4, Franz Liszt's Les jeux d'eaux a la Villa d'Este from Annees de Peleringe (Troisieme Annee) for Solo Piano, Beryl Rubinstein's Sonata for Flute and Piano, and Anton Dvorak's Piano Quintet No. 2 in A Major, Op. 81. The concert is free to the public, but donations are gratefully accepted at the door.
The story and music of America's Composer come to life on stage when The Town Hall presents HERSHEY FELDER AS IRVING BERLIN, a new play with music written and performed by award-winning actor and musician Hershey Felder (Broadway's George Gershwin Alone, Maestro Bernstein). Directed by Trevor Hay, HERSHEY FELDER AS IRVING BERLIN plays one night only, Monday, June 6 at 8PM at The Town Hall (123 West 43rd Street).
In the second half of the CSO's Festival: Vienna 1900, CSO Music Director Rossen Milanov will conduct the Mozart & Schubert program featuring guest pianist Stewart Goodyear. In homage to Franz Schubert, the great pianist and composer Franz Liszt took Schubert's piano solo and transcribed it for piano and orchestra. The resulting Wanderer Fantasy is a dynamic and colorful work combining the talents of these two musical giants. Mozart's final and most masterful symphony anchors this absorbing and intriguing program.
San Diego audience favorite Hershey Felder ("George Gershwin Alone," "Monsieur Chopin," "Beethoven," "Liszt," "An American Story," "Irving Berlin") returns to San Diego Repertory Theatre in a pre-New York engagement of "Hershey Felder as Leonard Bernstein in MAESTRO." Fresh from a sold out run of "Hershey Felder as Irving Berlin" at the La Jolla Playhouse, Felder will now perform this signature work about America's finest conductor and composer, Leonard Bernstein, which had its premiere in 2011 at San Diego's Old Globe Theatre. Directed by Joel Zwick, "MAESTRO" plays a limited engagement from Wednesday, July 6 to Sunday, July 17, 2016. Details for the New York presentation will be announced in April.
Noted concert pianist and raconteur Evans Haile, who has been called 'the fire and flame of music,' brings his unique program of music, stories, and humor to Palm Beach Dramaworks on February 23, in A Musical Soiree. In addition to performing compositions by the likes of Frederic Chopin, Claude Debussy, Franz Liszt, Louis Moreau Gottschalk, and Ernesto Lecuona, Haile will augment the music with fascinating stories and observations. The 7:30 concert at the Don & Ann Brown Theatre will be preceded by a cocktail hour in the lobby. Proceeds from the event will go toward refurbishing the theatre's marquee.
Chattanooga, TN – The Chattanooga Symphony & Opera (CSO) and the CSO Youth Orchestras (CSOYO) present a unique event, featuring not only two of the youth orchestras in concert (Symphony and Philharmonic), but also the CSO Orchestra and the CSOYO Symphony combined. Giving students the chance to play alongside professional musicians provides invaluable musical education opportunities for the up-and-coming musicians. This event will provide CSOYO students a chance to learn more about their craft by working alongside the CSO musicians on classical masterworks by popular composers such as Rossini and Liszt. Featured in the program are the top two winners of the 2015 CSOYO Concerto Competition, Hannah Eitzen and Sasha Hitachi-Kizziah. Bugs Bunny at the Symphony closes its 25th Anniversary, 2015 tour at San Francisco's Davies Hall this weekend. Brad Mehldau, known foremost as an improviser, is the first jazz artist to serve as Carnegie Hall's Richard and Barbara Debs Composer's Chair.
