20 years later, returns to the spotlight with LULU XX, a new cross-media performance that celebrates WaxFactory's 20th anniversary with Latta in the starring role at the Connelly Theater. Ivan Talijancic took the time to chat with BroadwayWorld about the upcoming production.
2020 marks the 20th birthday of the Dragon Productions Theatre Company and is the first season that new co-artistic directors Alika Spencer Koknar and Bora a?oeMaxa?? Koknar have programmed for the company. The theatre season is the typical mix of Dragon produced a?oeMain Stage Seriesa?? shows and a?oe2nd Stages Seriesa?? plays. However, in 2020, as part of a company re-branding effort in progress, the 2nd Stages series will be renamed the Dragon's Nest Incubator Program to better acknowledge Dragon's commitment to the development of local artists of varying disciplines.
The Cleveland Orchestra announced the name of its groundbreaking citywide festival, Censored: Art & Power, scheduled for spring 2020. The festival is centered around the Orchestra's performances of Alban Berg's opera Lulu in May 2020, and seeks to spur discussion about the role of art in society, government censorship, and prejudice, taking as a starting point the Degenerate Art & Music movement in Nazi Germany. As a major focal point of the Orchestra's 2019-20 season, the festival will feature a variety of collaborative presentations surrounding and leading up to the opera performances (May 16, 19, and 22).

Inspired by Frank Wedekind's timeless female protagonist, LULU XX challenges the idolatry and the misogyny of the male gaze in the artistic representation of women. Created by WaxFactory's co-founders Ivan Talijancic and Erika Latta, the performance revisits the unapologetic heroine of Wedekind's Lulu plays (Earth Spirit and Pandora's Box), asking new questions about agency, representation, and violence in the contemporary world.
