It has been over 130 years since German playwright Frank Wedekind first published SPRING AWAKENING. In 2006, the play was reinvented when Duncan Sheik and Steven Sater turned it into a musical.

Porchlight’s SPRING AWAKENING brings out moments of the raw emotion and many of the angsty vibes in the musical with Hlava’s Wendla and Kelch’s Mortiz as powerful anchors in this ensemble of angsty teens (though, aside from Hlava, all the actors are past their teen days). While the production doesn’t solve the musical’s challenges of underbaked characters and heavy-handedness when it comes to the issues presented, Didier’s direction and choreography bring us some nice tableaus, along with Justin Akira Kono’s music direction that highlights the ensemble in key vocal moments.

Daarom zal Spring Awakening dit keer in de grote zaal van DeLaMar te zien zijn: de Wim Sonneveld zaal. De musical wordt hier van 25 februari t/m 13 maartgespeeld door een deels nieuwe cast. Wegens het grote succes keert Spring Awakening, een coproductie van OpusOne en DeLaMar in december terug naar DeLaMar West. Vanaf 24 december 2021 zal de musical, met o.a. rollen voor elf jonge musicalacteurs, nog twintig keer te zien zijn in het gloednieuwe theater in Amsterdam. De kaarten voor deze reprise zijn vanaf vandaag in de verkoop. Spring Awakening werd geregisseerd door Koen van Dijk en de vertaling is van Daniël Cohen. Muzikale leiding is in handen van Ezra van Nassauw en de choreografie is gemaakt door Roy Jonathans.
