by Audrey Morabito

In the theatre world, your first time seeing Rodgers & Hammerstein's OKLAHOMA! is essentially a rite of passage. You either love it or you don't-and the pendulum can swing either direction depending on the actors, designers, and director's choices. Ever since I sat in my Survey of Musical Theatre class freshman year, watching the 1999 film of Oklahoma! , I've been waiting to see a live production. Whether you are an Oklahoma addict or have never heard of the show before, do your soul a favor and experience this joyful, unreplicable production.

by Keith Waits

If you are like me you remember where you were when certain global events occurred, both positive and negative. I remember where I was when the Challenger exploded when the Berlin Wall came down...when a lone gunman entered Sandy Hook Elementary School and began to shoot. When the smoke cleared there were 28 lives lost on that cold December day in Newtown, CT. While this horrible event happened nearly six years ago, it is still very much part of our political and social climate today.

Presented in partnership with the Missouri Chapter of Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America and 'Painting for Peace in Ferguson', the play combines live music, singing, and interviews from Newtown residents as they recount the ripples in their community in the wake of the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting. The play isn't merely about trauma; it is also about how a community banded together to heal and reshape their community in the wake of what is both a local and national tragedy.

San Diego Theatre Connection is Creating Community with OnStage Playhouse (www.onstageplayhouse.org) to continue the national discussion about gun use and violence in our schools. OnStage Playhouse, long established in Chula Vista, feels strongly that a theatre can become a forum for the community to come together in honest and open conversation about issues that concern us all. Managing Director, James P. Darvas says, 'change requires meaningful conversations. They help us understand what is happening, to learn from each other, and to find ways to move forward using the insight and knowledge of those interested in the issues.'

There's a feeling unlike anything I've ever felt and it happened this past Sunday at 3:30pm. The final chords of our musical Passing Through played and I looked at our incredible cast through teary eyes as the lights faded to blackout.
