BWW Review: HUCKLEBERRY FINN'S BIG RIVER at Adventure Theatre Photo BWW Review: HUCKLEBERRY FINN'S BIG RIVER at Adventure Theatre
by Elliot Lanes - Feb 15, 2019

The 1985 Broadway season might have been one of the weakest on record for musicals; in fact, only three shows were nominated for Best Musical at the Tony Awards that year. We had an Ellie Greenwich jukebox musical (Leader of the Pack), one of Harold Prince's big budget disasters (Grind), and a musical based on Mark Twain's The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn (Big River). Needless to say, at least in my opinion, Big River won the Tony Award for Best Musical and several other awards in part due to a lack of competition. Despite some catchy songs by Roger ‚ÄúKing of the Road‚ÄĚ Miller the show suffered, in my opinion anyhow, from there simply being too much of it. William Hauptman's book tried to focus on multiple stories as opposed to having Huck and his relationship with runaway slave Jim be the true heart.

BWW Review: Tori Scott Provides Post-Election Catharsis in SEEING DOUBLE at Joe's Pub
by Troy Frisby - Nov 30, 2016

Early on in Tori Scott's SEEING DOUBLE, the woman of the hour deadpanned, 'I've been in a rut since birth.' If that's the case, we should all be so lucky. But on the subject of things that could be going better, throughout Scott's performance at Joe's Pub on November 13, the unofficial theme of the night was, 'Could this year get any worse?' With the election still looming large, Scott took the stage, explaining she'd been looking forward to the show because she was in need of some attention, before adding, 'Then Tuesday happened and I needed group therapy.'

BWW Review: LEADER OF THE PACK Zooms Into Downriver Actors Guild
by Anton Anderssen - Aug 1, 2016

The Downriver Actors Guild will be taking a step back in time when the tunes were 'Outta Site' and 'Going Steady' was a teenager's biggest concern. It's the 60's, and Leader of the Pack is sure to please. Leader of the pack celebrates the life and times of Ellie Greenwich, and her doo wop sounds that skyrocketed to the top of the 60's music charts. This high-spirited show sponsored by Biker Bob's Harley Davidson of Taylor will take you down memory lane with some of the sixties most popular hits including, Chapel of Love,' 'Da Do Ron Ron,' 'Be My Baby,' 'Hanky Panky,' Do Wah Diddy,' 'And Then He Kissed Me' and, of course, the title song 'Leader of the Pack.' Some of the most talented young adults in the downriver area will grace the stage to bring this story to life.
