The Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra (MSO) announced today that Frank Almond will conclude his tenure as concertmaster at the end of the 2019-20 season. Appointed by Zdenek Mácal during his final season as music director, Mr. Almond served as concertmaster for 25 seasons under Andreas Delfs, Edo de Waart, and now Ken-David Masur. Following the conclusion of the 2019-20 season, Mr. Almond will remain with the orchestra as an Artistic Advisor, working closely with Maestro Masur and others to contribute to the MSO's continued artistic excellence.
Dance Currents Inc. and Pro Arte Chamber Orchestra of Boston are presenting a concert of dance and music, "Our Children's Legacy, Music and Dances of Loss and Hope". Three or four musical pieces will be played live by Pro Arte, Franz Schubert's "Gretchen am Spinnrade", "Six Lyric Pieces by Edvard Grieg", "Piano Quintet in F# minor" by Amy Beach, and, on June 9th, "Vanishing Act for Narrator, Cello and Piano", by Judith Lynn Stillman. Dance Currents Inc. and Pro Arte Chamber Orchestra of Boston are presenting a concert of dance and music as part of Pro Arte's Salon Series, June 9th, 2019. Dance Currents will be premiering a new piece entitled, "For the Children" at this performance and three others, two in Newton and two in Boston. The work is based on the separation of families, as immigrants try to cross the border into the United States. It has six sections: Loss, Love, Shadows, At Your Feet, Phantoms and March. The dancers are Kirsten Glaser, Avery Saulnier De Reyes, Alex Jimenez, and Taryn Scott-Kolbe. These dances are set to six of Edvard Grieg's "Lyric Pieces", and will be played live by Pro Arte Chamber Orchestra in the June 9thand June 14thperformances. At these performances we will also present "Limon Etude", danced by Li-Ann Lim and sung by soprano, Maire Clement , to Schubert's "Gretchen at the Spinning Wheel".

Newton's New Philharmonia Orchestra, led by Associate Conductor Jorge Soto, will present Quintessentially American, its second family concert of the 2018 19 season. The ASPECT Foundation for Music & Arts continues its third New York City season of illuminating performances today, March 6, 2019 at 7:30pm with When Tchaikovsky Met Brahms at the Italian Academy at Columbia University. The program features the acclaimed Duo Sitkovetsky (Alexander Sitkovetsky, violin; Wu Qian, piano) in Tchaikovsky's Souvenir d'un lieu cher, Op. 42; Brahms's Violin Sonata No. 2 in A Major, Op. 100; and Grieg's Sonata No. 3 in C minor.
