What better way to kick off PRIDE month than with a concert celebrating the 35th Anniversary of the Boston Gay Men's Chorus? Held at Symphony Hall on June 4th and titled ANYTHING GOES, the show featured 175 chorus members and offered a lineup of music ranging from Leonard Bernstein to original work. The evening was topped off with a solo performance by two-time Tony winner Sutton Foster.
“A prolific choreographer of skillfully constructed dances that respectfully mesh with music and striking visual design” (The New Yorker), Jessica Lang and her company return to Jacob's Pillow for the ensemble's first Ted Shawn Theatre engagement, July 5-9. In addition to a Pillow-commissioned world premiere work, the program includes Lang's Thousand Yard Stare, a dance embodying the incredible pride and honor as well as the searing loss experienced by military veterans. The program will also include the East Coast and company premiere of Lang's Lyric Pieces as well as Solo Bach, Sweet Silent Thought, and The Calling. This season, the Pillow has formed a partnership with the Tanglewood Music Center, whereby Tanglewood Fellows and alumni will be providing the music accompaniment for this engagement.
Eminent maestro Vladimir Spivakov and the acclaimed Moscow Virtuosi Chamber Orchestra will perform at Lisner Auditorium at George Washington University on Saturday, June 3 at 7:30 PM as a part of their seven-city North American tour. Joining them are the brilliant soprano and Metropolitan Opera star Hibla Gerzmava - last heard at the Met in 2016 as Desdemona in Verdi's Otello, and who recently made her La Scala Opera debut in the title role in Donizetti's Anna Bolena - and 14-year-old Israeli prodigy, cellist Danielle Akta.

The Uptown/Downtown/Dance program will include an as-yet-untitled World Premiere from Martin Lawrance and the World Premiere of Painted Within by Zhong-Jing Fang, as well as a restaging of former NYTB resident choreographer Edward Henkel's ReVision, created in 1986, with music by Edvard Grieg, Holberg Suite op. 40 (1884). A 2013 NYTB commission, Short Memory by Pam Tanowitz, is set to live music by Lou Harrison and Henry Cowell and helps set up Ms. Tanowitz's brilliant use of stage space. The evenings include two more pieces by Ms. Tanowtiz: Light Moving, set to music by David Lang, and Double Andante, a 13-minute ballet for ten dancers set to the Andante movement of Beethoven's Sonata in D Major #15, which will be played live on piano two times at different tempos. Carnegie Hall today announced that baritone Florian Boesch must regrettably withdraw from his upcoming duo-recital with soprano Miah Persson scheduled for this Wednesday, March 22 at 7:30 p.m. in Zankel Hall due to illness. Ms. Persson has agreed to instead offer a solo recital joined by pianist Malcolm Martineau, who was already scheduled to perform this concert.
