The City of West Hollywood’s Free Theatre in the Parks! and Coeurage Ensemble will present a new adaptation of William Shakespeare’s Pericles. There will be six performances only on Saturday and Sunday at 4pm from September 6–21.

The Geffen west coast premieres Paul Grellong’s POWER OF SAIL, already in previews. Weyni Mengesha directs the cast of Hugo Armstrong, Amy Brenneman, Bryan Cranston, Donna Simone Johnson, Tedra Millan, Seth Numrich and Brandon Scott. I had the chance to question Hugo, a familiar face on the Los Angeles theatre stages on being in POWER and his ongoing relationship with L.A. theatre.

Geffen Playhouse today announced the full cast for its West Coast premiere of Power of Sail, written by Paul Grellong (The Boys, Manuscript) and directed by Weyni Mengesha (Bars and Measures, Duchess! Duchess! Duchess!).

Calista Flockhart and Zachary Quinto to Star in WHO'S AFRAID OF VIRGINIA WOOLF? at the Geffen Playhouse

Geffen Playhouse added three new productions to complete its 25th Anniversary Season lineup, it was announced today. Playwright Edward Albee's Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf? will make its Geffen Playhouse premiere in April 2022, featuring Calista Flockhart (Ally McBeal, Neil LaBute's bash) and Zachary Quinto (Star Trek franchise, The Boys in the Band); A Wicked Soul in Cherry Hill, a new original musical from playwright and Geffen Playhouse The Writers' Room program alum Matt Schatz, will make its world premiere in June 2022; and playwright Fernanda Coppel's King Liz will makes its West Coast premiere in July 2022.

Winners Of LANPP Grants Announced

Los Angeles New Play Project has released the names of the three playwrights who have each been awarded $20,000 grants for their original work. These plays will be presented on stages in Los Angeles County with an additional grant up to $20,000 to each of the producing entities in support of the productions. All three playwrights are based in Los Angeles.

Son Of Semele Leaves Home Of 18 Years

Award-winning theatre company Son of Semele Ensemble is announcing its departure from their Silver Lake home of 18 years. Led by Founding Artistic Director Matthew McCray since 2000, the company has been in residence at 3301 Beverly Boulevard in a black box theatre they created in 2003. 

Virtual Premiere of THE LATRELL SHOW to be Presented by IAMA Theatre Company

IAMA Theatre Company will present the virtual premiere of “The Latrell Show,” written and performed by actor, writer and social justice advocate Brandon Kyle Goodman. Co-directed by IAMA co-artistic director Stefanie Black and company member Devere Rogers, “The Latrell Show” will be filmed on stage at the Pico Playhouse.

Don’t touch the merchandise! A new, “gaytastic” comic solo play, written and performed by self-confessed rage-aholic Tom DeTrinis, will be filmed live at L.A.’s Pico Playhouse for digital release by IAMA Theatre Company. Directed by Drew Droege, Making Friends will be available for viewing beginning Dec. 17 and continue streaming through Jan. 11, 2021.
