Artistic and Education Director Derek Whitener Resigns From The Firehouse Theatre

According to a note on The Firehouse Theatre’s website, dated November 20, 2020, Artistic and Education Director has formally resigned from his duties at the theatre. New leadership positions have not been announced.

The Washington Chorus Goes Virtual With Annual Christmas Concert

David Moore has been appointed Interim President of Dramatists Play Service, taking the reins from Peter Hagan, who announced his impending retirement in January of this year. Hagan served for seven years as only the sixth President of the 84 year old company, founded in 1936 by the Dramatists Guild of America and a group of prominent play agents.

Broadway composer/lyricist/author/musical director/vocal arranger/dance arranger/orchestrator/accompanist, best known for composing The Tornado, and Emerald City Ballet in the Broadway hit 'The Wiz,' Timothy Graphenreed, passed away March 1, 2020, at Mt. Sinai at the age of 68.

'Every year around this time of year, people come to hear the story…' And that's the way it's been for the last 43 years as audiences have come to see the Theatre in the Park production of A CHRISTMAS CAROL and Ira David Wood III as Scrooge. The show opens this Wednesday at the Durham Performing Arts Center. Adapted by Ira David Wood III, this version of  A CHRISTMAS CAROL follows the traditional Dickens story, with a bit of updated humor. The miserly Ebenezer Scrooge is visited by three ghosts the night before Christmas. The apparitions are a telling reminder of Christmases past and a foreshadowing of Christmases to come.

Ethan Hawke Joins Cast of New Orleans Heist Film CUT THROAT CITY

It was announced today that Four-time Oscar®-nominated actor Ethan Hawke has signed on the New Orleans-set heist movie CUT THROAT CITY, directed by RZA (of the Wu Tang Clan). The film also stars Terrence Howard, Wesley Snipes, Eiza González, Kat Graham, Tip “T.I.” Harris, Joel David Moore, Isiah Washington, Keean Johnson, Sam Daly, Denzel Whitaker, Rob Morgan, Rich Paul, Demetrius Shipp Jr. and Shameik Moore. Well Go USA preemptively acquired North American rights earlier this year for the picture for a nationwide theatrical release in 2019. XYZ Films is handling international sales.

“Concert On The Lawn” Kicks Off 61st Monterey Jazz Festival

Monterey Jazz Festival kicks off the weekend's activities on Thursday, September 20 with another edition of the "Concert on the Lawn" at the Monterey County Fairgrounds, with Monterey Jazz Festival's Next Generation Jazz Orchestra performing a free 45-minute set for 500 students enrolled in Monterey County schools. The concert will start at 11am on Thursday, September 20 at the Garden Stage at the Monterey County Fair & Event Center.
