“Steel Magnolias”, author Robert Harling’s 1987 stage play, became a cultural zeitgeist after the release of the 1989 film version starring Sally Field, Dolly Parton, Julia Roberts, Olympia Dukakis, Shirley MacLaine and Daryl Hannah.
