Review: STEEL MAGNOLIAS at Theatre 29

“Steel Magnolias”, author Robert Harling’s 1987 stage play, became a cultural zeitgeist after the release of the 1989 film version starring Sally Field, Dolly Parton, Julia Roberts, Olympia Dukakis, Shirley MacLaine and Daryl Hannah. The work is considered a comedy and indeed it is witty and bitingly funny, but it is more known for it’s pathos. A “dramedy” is the term I think more appropriate. Theatre 29's production of "Steel Magnolias" embodies that description, springing to blazing life, captivating audiences with its heartfelt portrayals and seamless production.
