A typical pitfall of talking plays is that the modern audience may struggle to focus if there is no action to go along with the talking, but a smart production can find ways to keep an audience engaged. And CTAW’s production of The Gin Game was very smart indeed. The moments of levity between the tension more than makes up for the lack of spectacle of modern-day theater.

This week's theater news spans triumph and turbulence in equal measure. On the celebratory side, Ann-Margret is set to receive a Lifetime Achievement Award at the Chita Rivera Awards, Broadway dims its marquees to honor luminaries including Robert Duvall and Bret Hanna-Shuford, and the 2026 Olivier Award nominations are in — with Into The Woods and Paddington The Musical leading the pack.

The Broadway In Memoriam Committee, has confirmed a Tuesday, March 10th marquee dimming to honor artists and industry members, Robert Duvall, Bret Hanna-Shuford and more.

The Pulitzer Prize winning play The Gin Game by D.L. Coburn will be performed for one weekend only at the Endicott College Manninen Center for the Arts.

Single tickets for Florida Repertory Theatre's 26th season are now on sale. The 2023-2024 season opens to previews in the ArtStage Studio on September 19, and the nine-show professional season runs through May 19, 2024.

What did our critic think of GIN GAME at Vapors Live? As I made my way to the Vapors, 315 Park Avenue, in Hot Springs, to watch their production of GIN GAME Saturday, May 20, I had no idea that I was going to instantly fall in love with this venue. I do love historic buildings, but this one is special. According to their website, The Vapors was founded in the summer of 1959 by WWII Pilot Dane Harris and New York Gangster Vincent “Owney” Madden.

The Gin Game by D.L. Coburn will be presented by Lakewood Theatre Company on its Side Door Stage for eight performances from February 23 through March 4, 2023. Performances are Thursday through Saturday at 7:00 PM and Saturday matinees at 2:00 PM February 26 and March 4.
