HELLO, DOLLY! National Tour Cancels Detroit Opening Night Due To Truck Malfunction

Broadway in Detroit has announced that tomorrow's opening night performance, (Tuesday, November 19 at 8:00 PM) of the national tour of HELLO DOLLY! at Detroit's Fisher Theatre has been cancelled due to an unanticipated mechanical issue with one of the touring production's semi-trucks while en route to Detroit.

Wow wow wow, fellas! 55 years ago, Broadway's legendary original Dolly Levi, Carol Channing, took to the cover of Life Magazine as the matchmaker. Carolee Carmello, who is currently portraying the iconic character on the show's national tour, paid tribute to Channing by reenacting the photo in costume on stage. Throughout theatrical history many great ladies of the theatre have tackled the role of Thornton Wilder's famous matchmaker Dolly Gallagher Levi in the musical Hello, Dolly! In 2017 a brand new revival of the show hit Broadway starring Bette Midler (with Donna Murphy alternating in) and later on in its run Bernadette Peters. That production is now touring the country with Tony Award winning actress Betty Buckley in the starring role and veteran actor Lewis J. Stadlen as the well-known half a millionaire Horace Vandergelder.

Sister Act opens Music Theatre Wichita's season, directed by Mark Madama and choreographed by Robert Hartwell. Mr. Madama is Associate Professor of Musical Theatre at the University of Michigan, with a host of directing credits, both in the U.S. and internationally. Mr. Hartwell's numerous Broadway performing credits include Motown, Nice Work If You Can Get It (Astaire Award nomination) and Bette Midler's original company of Hello, Dolly!, and he is the founder and director of 'The Broadway Collective.' Scenic designer Adam Koch will join the team to consult on the sets he designed for the Ogunquit Playhouse.

Music Theatre Wichita concludes its 2017 Season, "Hollywood to Broadway: A Summer Festival of Musical Theatre" with the regional premiere of Disney's Newsies. The lively season finale has an extended run, with performances August 11-20 in the Century II Concert Hall in downtown Wichita, KS. Newsies is part of the organization's 46th season, which is also the 30th season for producing artistic director Wayne Bryan, the final of five locally produced Broadway-scale productions.

Stagedoor Manor Joins Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade Lineup

A group of 136 Stagedoor Manor students from all over the world will sing and dance the grand finale at this year's Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade®, marking the famed theatrical summertime training ground's fourth consecutive Parade performance. After traveling the entire parade route, the Stagedoor Manor students will arrive at Herald Square and introduce Santa Claus by performing the number "Santa By The Book" from Macy's new program Yes, Virginia The Musical. Yes, Virginia The Musical had its world premiere at Stagedoor Manor earlier this year and its original cast, made up of 28 Stagedoor Manor students ages 10-13, will accompany Santa and Mrs. Claus on their float for the entirety of the Parade route.
