This winter and spring, Joe's Pub a?" a program and venue of The Public Theater a?" is honoring new voices in musical theater through a variety of shows. From Broadway performers in concert to new musicals presented in the concert setting, there's something for every fan of musicals happening this season. Audiences are invited to celebrate the art of musical theater in non-conventional yet intimate ways with returning artists and new faces alike at Joe's Pub.

Check out Joe's Pub lineup for the Under the Radar festival featuring new and experimental work from Rizo (fka Lady Rizo), Lucy McComick, Daniel J. Watts, and Ryan J. Haddad. Rounding out the week is Kittel & Co, Ethan Lipton & His Orchestra, Jean-Michel Blais, Rev Billy, a very fun showcase from DANCE NOW, Nellie McKay, Aditya Prakash, Damien Sneed, William Prince, Xenia França, Luis Enrique and, as always, a ton more.

EASTBOUND by Cheeyang Ng (book/music) and Khiyon Hursey (book/lyrics) will be presented in concert at Joe's Pub on January 18 (Saturday), 9:30pm.

Honeck-Moss Productions is proud to present a?oeIn The Works.a??  This exciting series is an opportunity for composers to try out new work in front of an audience and see how it plays in a supportive environment.  It is also an opportunity to create community among the composers and their performers.  

The New York Musical Festival (NYMF) Teams with Hidden Cabaret to Produce 'How The Light Gets In'. On December 2, NYMF will be premiering three commissioned micro-musicals at Hidden Cabaret at 7PM. 'How The Light Gets In' is a new concept for NYMF which will be celebrating its 17th year this summer.

Live & In Color, located in Salem, CT, is looking for playwrights, composers, and lyricists of color and/or other underrepresented communities interested in developing a new musical or play during their annual fall retreat in September 2020. The York Theatre Company launches their 50th Anniversary Season with its acclaimed Musicals in Mufti series celebrating the legendary Broadway composer Cole Porter. As Live & In Color's 2019 fall retreat wraps up, the theatre company will be presenting staged readings of 'The Golden Threshold', a new musical in development on Saturday, September 21st and Sunday, September 22nd, 2019 at the Bingham Camp in Salem, CT. Set in 1930 British India, 'The Golden Threshold' follows two young women named Maya and Harini as they join Mahatma Gandhi's revolutionary protest known as the Salt March; one woman to avoid an arranged marriage, the other to free her nation. The score features a fusion of contemporary musical theatre with traditional Indian music elements. This new musical features book & music by Cheeyang Ng and book & lyrics by Eric Sorrels. The production is directed by Arpita Mukherjee, artistic director of the Hypokrit Theatre Company and the festival chair for New York's Tamasha: A Festival for South Asian Performing Arts. The cast features Brian Myers Cooper* (Irwin / Viceroy), Kuhoo Verma* (Maya), Kimberly Chatterjee* (Harini), Meetu Chilana* (Mummy), Sorab Wadia* (Papa), Cameron Nies (Lawrence), and Jamen Nanthakumar* (Devaraj). Musical direction is by Alyssa Kay Thompson

Artistic Director Devanand Janki continues to gather a diverse group of New York theatre professionals at the Bingham Camp in Salem, Connecticut to develop new works with his theatre company, Live & In Color. Now entering their 5th annual artistic residency, Live & In Color is an innovative theatrical program during which artists spend time in a rural setting creating work that gives voice to underrepresented communities onstage.

It's that time of year again. One of my favorite times of year. That time when I get to spend the weekend at Village Theatre checking out the shows brought together by the folks at Village, spotlighting new works around the country. Some amazing, some needing work, but all showing promise. Now, of course, I can't review any of these. They're all still works in progress and not fully staged. But I can share what went on over the weekend as a potential coming attraction of musicals to come to a theater near you.

Philip Paul Kelly is set to appear in a staged reading of the musical 'The Golden Threshold.' The actor will be playing the part of 'The Viceroy of The British Raj' in the September workshop at the Bingham Camp in Salem, Connecticut in association with Live & In Color Theatre. Cheeyang Ng & Eric Sorrels wrote the musical set in 1930's India and follows the story of a poet named Maya, during India's quest for independence from British rule.

With The 19th Annual Festival of New Musicals taking place this upcoming weekend, Village Theatre is excited to announce the casting for XY, an uplifting musical about identity and coming to terms with your past; Cold Turkey, a wild and funny satire; Modern, an inspiring tale about a group of Amish teenagers; Eastbound, an poignant story about Chinese brothers in search of a home they've never known; and Cowboy Bob, an adventurous rock musical about a bank-robbing woman. The Festival will take place in Issaquah August 9-11, 2019 and provides an essential platform for writers to develop new works. Past Festival shows include Tony and Pulitzer Prize-winning shows such as Next to Normal and Million Dollar Quartet, as well as Broadway and Off-Broadway hits: It Shoulda Been You, Desperate Measures, Lizzie, and many more.

Village Theatre has announced the lineup for The 19th Annual Festival of New Musicals, a series of five staged readings of musicals currently in development. The Festival will take place in Issaquah August 9-11, 2019. Village Theatre's Festival of New Musicals is the birthplace of Tony and Pulitzer Prize-winning shows such as Next to Normal and Million Dollar Quartet, as well as Broadway and Off-Broadway hits: It Shoulda Been You, Desperate Measures, Lizzie, and many more.

This weekend, Prospect Theater Company, under the leadership of Producing Artistic Director Cara Reichel and Managing Director Melissa Huber, presents Message In A Bottle, a collection of original mini-musicals in concert, the culmination of Prospect's annual musical theater lab process. Message In A Bottle, the company's 13th lab production, will be presented on Saturday, June 1 at 7:30pm and Sunday, June 2 at 2:00pm at The A.R.T. / New York Theatres (502 West 53rd St, NYC). The lab will feature performances by an ensemble of Prospect alumni artists, and newcomers: Joanna Carpenter, Christopher Cherry, Diego Diaz, Ellis Gage, Alyssa Gomez, Sevan Greene, Jiho Kang, Patty Nieman, Allison Posner, Alicia Thomas, and Jeff Williams.
