Planet Connections Theater Festivity will premiere in June 2009 as a new festival designed to promote awareness in the theatrical community about social and cultural issues. Formed by two Spotlight On Festival alums, Glory Bowen and Frank Calo, the festival will explore using theater as a tool for social change while connecting artists with new audiences in fun theatrical environment. The goals of the festival are to inspire people to get involved and fight for world causes.

Following the success of Martin Dockery's The Surprise in terraNOVA Collective's soloNOVA Arts Festival, The DR2 Theatre and terraNOVA Collective have chosen Martin Dockery to return for a special encore run of The Surprise along with his sold out hit of the Orlando Fringe Festival, Wanderlust, June 4-6 at the DR2 Theater (103 East 15th Street).

The New York Post's Michael Riedel is reporting that film stars Hugh Jackman and Daniel Craig will team up in a new play this fall on Broadway.

Fern Kershon and Orange Thought Productions today announced that Eliza Foss, Scott Kerns, Marcia Jean Kurtz, Martin LaPlatney, Melissa Miller and Mark Setlock would comprise the cast of their new production, Heart of the City, a new play by Eric Lane, directed by Martha Banta.

The New York Times is reporting that the Off-Broadway production of Jon Marans' The Temperamentals, which is currently playing at the Barrow Group Studio Theater through May 18th, is now set to move to the theater's bigger 99-seat space in June for a four-week run in the hopes of attracting interest for an extended commercial production, the show's publicist said in a statement this afternoon.

The Barrow Group Theatre Company presented its 15th Annual Celebrity Doodles Auction & Gala on Monday, May 4th, 2009. Each year celebrities donate their artwork, or doodles, that are auctioned off in this annual fundraiser, at which The Barrow Group also honors individuals for their service to the arts and TBG. This year's honorees include Tony Award Winners Nathan Lane and Judith Ivey and arts advocate Jeff Dine.

In this underground world, danger was always an underlying presence. But with it, a heady, intoxicating secrecy also hung in the air.

Henry 'Harry' Hay (April 7, 1912 - October 24, 2002) was a teacher, labor advocate and early leader in the American LGBT rights movement. Drawing on his background in the Communist Party USA, he co-founded the Mattachine Society, the first enduring LGBT rights organization in the US, in 1950.

Burning Coal Theatre Company will present one additional performance of 1960 by Ian Finley and members of the Burning Coal Theatre Company next Thursday, May 7 at 8 pm at Meymandi Theatre at the Murphey School, 224 Polk Street, Raleigh.
