The series was created by Zoey's Extraordinary Playlist's Austin Winsburg, Robert Greenblatt. Lloyd Webber will also be involved with the creation of the series and is also rumored to be a part of the cast. Season one of The Show Must Go On will follow a fictitious televised live production of The Phantom of the Opera.

Season two picks up on the heels of season one, telling the story of twenty-something Máximo Gallardo, whose dream comes true when he scores the job of a lifetime as a cabana boy at a hot resort in Acapulco, Las Colinas.
