Los Angeles Philharmonic Cancels Remainder of 2019/20 Season

To protect its audiences, musicians, employees, and community from the spread of COVID-19 and in response to the evolving guidance from Governor Gavin Newsom, Mayor Eric Garcetti, and Los Angeles County health officials, the LA Phil is canceling the remainder of its concerts for the 2019/2020 season at Walt Disney Concert Hall.

The Los Angeles Philharmonic has announced its 99th summer season at the Hollywood Bowl, showcasing a roster of world-class artists ranging from classical and pops to jazz, rock, and world music. The season features the return of legendary Bowl favorites, celebrated artists and conductors making their Bowl debuts, and the premieres of new LA Phil-commissioned works.

The GRAMMY AWARDS Premiere Ceremony took place at Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles on Sunday, January 26, from 12:30-3:30 p.m. PT. Preceding the 62nd Annual GRAMMY AWARDS telecast, the Premiere Ceremony was hosted by two-time GRAMMY winner and current nominee Imogen Heap and featured a number of performances by current GRAMMY nominees. Performers included classical violinist Nicola Benedetti, jazz legend Chick Corea, folk music supergroup I'm With Her, West African sensation Angélique Kidjo and Best New Artist nominee Yola.

February 2020 Lineup Announced At Birdland Jazz Club And Birdland Theater

Birdland Jazz Club and Birdland Theater are pleased to present the schedule for the month of February! At Birdland Jazz Club, catch the iconic Lionel Hampton Big Band Featuring Jason Marsalis, current GRAMMY nominee Catherine Russell, the Birdland debut of AGUAS Trio with Omar Sosa, Yilian Cañizares and Gustavo Ovalles, and iconic vocalist Jane Monheit. Internationally recognized trumpeter Rachel Therrien, the Seth Weaver Big Band, and The Voice contestant Melinda Rose Rodriguez will also be performing upstairs. 

Los Angeles Philharmonic Association to Present Playboy Jazz Festival for Seventh Year in a Row

For the seventh year in a row, the Los Angeles Philharmonic Association will present the annual Playboy Jazz Festival at the Hollywood Bowl. In keeping with the tradition of presenting an exciting and diverse line-up, performers already confirmed to appear, June 6-7, 2020, include soul rebels St. Paul and The Broken Bones, jazz drummer and producer extraordinaire Terri Lyne Carrington and Social Science, hip hop singer and songwriter Musiq Soulchild, jazz all-stars The Crosscurrents Trio with Dave Holland, Zakir Hussain & Chris Potter, R&B funkmasters The Isley Brothers featuring Ronald and Ernie Isley, world music super group Bokanté, all-star female jazzers Artemis with Renee Rosnes, Anat Cohen, Ingrid Jensen, Allison Miller, Noriko Ueda and Nicole Glover, the glorious Afro-Cuban sounds of Cimafunk, audience favorite Mr. Sipp 'The Mississippi Blues Child,' Nigerian superstar Femi Kuti & The Positive Force, Lean on Me: José James Celebrates Bill Withers, British acid jazz band Incognito, jazz saxophonist extraordinaire Azar Lawrence with the Azar Lawrence Experience, and more.

At Birdland Jazz Club, catch the Legendary Count Basie Orchestra, under the direction of Scotty Barhart and special guest vocalist Carmen Bradford; Karrin Allyson as she pays tribute to Mose Allison; and the Hot Sardines, among others!

The Town Hall & Winter Jazzfest Present Seu Jorge With Roge

Singer, songwriter, film actor (City of God), and Rio native Seu Jorge is the reigning king of samba-funk: a sound, born in the 1960s, that merges Brazil's trademark dance rhythm with soul, R&B, hip-hop, and other black pop styles from the U.S. His hits, notably a?oeCarolina,a?? a?oeAmiga da Minha Mulhera?? (My Woman's Friend), and a?oeBurguesinhaa?? (Bourgeois Girl), are as irresistibly danceable as the best of Motown. Later he branched out into bossa nova as well as the songs of David Bowie, which he sang in Portuguese in Wes Anderson's 2004 film The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou. Bowie raved about a?oethis new level of beauty which he has imbued them with.a?? He now stars in the Netflix crime drama Irmandade (Brotherhood).

Sunday, November 24th marked New York's premier jazz event of the season, the 6th New York City Readers Jazz Awards presented by Hot House Magazine, in partnership with Jazzmobile.  A packed house at the iconic Birdland Jazz Club enjoyed an exciting night of music and recognition for the very finest musicians that New York City has to offer.  After over 80,000 votes were cast by fans worldwide, winners of the awards were announced for each of the 19 categories.  A portion of the net proceeds of ticket sales were donated to Jazzmobile to support its mission to present high quality education and performance programs – an endeavor that also provides employment opportunities for our musicians and vocalists.  This year's honoree was broadcast icon Mark Ruffin, and the Lifetime Achievement Award was given to producer, director and philanthropist Nobuko “Cobi” Narita.
