Terry Johnson’s new play,The Sex Party, has many ingredients for success; an intriguing idea, an excellent cast and a beautiful set, but is let down with a sledgehammer script and meandering message that goes nowhere. There’s a lot happening at once, but the entire play is as shallow as a puddle.

The Menier Chocolate Factory is presenting the world première of Terry Johnson's The Sex Party. Four couples gather in a suburban London home for an evening of wine, cheese, and more intimate pleasures. Some are curious, some are more familiar, and one is rather unexpected. The Menier Chocolate Factory has announced that Amanda Ryan joins the company as Magdalena for the world première of Terry Johnson's The Sex Party – joining the previously announced Will Barton (Tim), Lisa Dwan (Gilly), John Hopkins (Jake), Timothy Hutton (Jeff), Jason Merrells (Alex), Pooya Mohseni (Lucy), Molly Osborne (Hetty) and Kelly Price (Camilla). Amanda Donohoe has had to withdraw for personal reasons.

Penobscot Theatre Company, the nation's Northeastern-most professional year-round theatre company, will kick off its 46th season with the rousing music and moving stories of American people as seen through the eyes of Woody Guthrie. WOODY GUTHRIE'S AMERICAN SONG, a Maine premiere, will play September 5-29 at the Historic Bangor Opera House in downtown Bangor, Maine.

Saint Michael's Playhouse Producing Artistic Director Chuck Tobin today announced the June 18 opening of the 72nd summer theater season of live professional theater at Saint Michael's Playhouse.

Heart On Sleeve Productions (Johnnie Moore Hawkins, Executive Producer) is delighted to present the world premiere of The Apple Boys: A Barbershop Quartet Musical, a one-of-a-kind musical that propels the uniquely American art form of the barbershop quartet into the stratosphere. Hilarious and heart-warming, The Apple Boys features a book by writer and performer Jonothon Lyons, music and lyrics by 2017 Jonathan Larson Grant recipient Ben Bonnema (Adult Swim's Peter Panic, Boys Who Tricked Me), and is directed by David Alpert (If/Then, The Trip to Bountiful). Performances will begin November 30 and run through December 23 at HERE (145 Sixth Avenue) with an opening on December 9.

Saint Michael's Playhouse announces the August 1 opening of Philip King's classic British farce See How They Run. 'In times like these we can all use a couple hours of non-stop laughter and See How They Run offers exactly that. Audience members laugh heartily from beginning to end at the hilarious hijinks and madcap mayhem of this perfectly written British farce,' said Chuck Tobin, Producing Artistic Director, Saint Michael's Playhouse. This is the grand finale of our 71st season,' Tobin continued, 'and it's British comedy at its finest.' Opening Wednesday August 1, 2018, evening performances are August 1 - 4, 7 - 11 (8pm), with matinee performances August 4 and 11 (2pm).

In a savvy marketing move and perfect way to kick off the summer theatre season, Mason Street Warehouse (MSW) at the Saugatuck Center for the Arts opened with the get-happy, ABBA-tribute musical Mamma Mia! now playing at MSW through July 15.  Once you've enjoyed it live-and-in-person at Mason Street Warehouse you can head to the movie theatre on July 20 for the Mamma Mia! movie sequel, Mamma Mia! The Birmingham Repertory Theatre is transported back to Oxford in the 1950s for Birdsong Productions' new adaptation of Shadowlands. Written by William Nicholson, Shadowlands is based on the unlikely romance between C.S. Lewis and Joy Gresham, and follows their first meeting, developing relationship and the untimely end of their marriage.
