So you've found your family a nice plot in the middle of a cemetery, right where dear Grandpa Isaac was recently laid to rest. With nerve-wracking moments brought to you by the family TV set, a son who has little discretion when it comes to public acts of sexual affection and townsfolk who stop by as a reminder of how crazy life has become (or possibly always been), the Goats family has its hands full with matters of life and death. Faced with the mundaneness of life but with a foot in the underworld, Joe, Mary, Jesus and Mavis wait patiently for the resurrection of Isaac, who is expected to rise from his beautiful marble grave any day now. Botched prophesies, religious confusion, wacky characters a?? there is surely nothing not to love about this wonderful new play called HELP A HANDICAPPED GOD...TROT ACROSS THE UNIVERSE.
Thomas Walters' 'Help A Handicapped God Trot Across the Universe,' directed by Joe John Battista, will open this Thursday, January 16 at The historic 13th Repertory Theatre, almost as if by some divine intervention.
Abingdon Theatre Company (Chad Austin, Artistic Director) beginning its 27th season presented a one-night only special event: a staged reading of Robin & Me: My Little Spark of Madness, a new solo work written and performed by Dave Droxler, directed by Devin Dunne Cannon at The Lucille Lortel Theatre (121 Christopher Street), on Monday, November 11th at 7pm.
Presented by Two Tough Broads, directed by Joe John Battista and now in performances at the historic Theater for the New City, A Life In the Rye is truly an inspirational piece of theater that not only brings new life to J.D. Salinger's own story, but does so in a way that brings such dimensionality to a brilliant yet troubled life. One hundred years after the author's birth and following the opening of an exhibit at the New York Public Library to commemorate Salinger's life and work, Solnik's play is an unbiased and beautifully-crafted ode to this man that shows both the playwright's admiration as it does the truthful complexity of Salinger's life.
The ultimate brother-and-sister act, Clare and Felice, a pair of genetically matched hams who combine the narcissism, fearfulness, shabbiness and splendor of every actor who ever walked the boards. Tonight they must put on 'The Two Character Play' no less than brilliantly, for it might mean the end of their tour. They are competitive and codependent in a fierce, scary way that is particularly associated with show people and siblings. Just put them on a stage, then step back and watch them burn, possibly to a pile of ashes.
Ruth Stage will present Lone Star by James McLure for eight performances from June 8 to June 16 at the 13th Street Repertory Theater in New York City. Broadwayworld.com interviewed New Jersey native, Matt de Rogatis who stars as Roy in the production.

BAHR Productions, the Hollywood-based Film, Television, and Digital production company behind the soon to open Off-Off Broadway play debut of BEFORE WE'RE GONE, by Jerry Small, has announced they intend to take their new play to Off- Broadway, with an eye on Broadway following the one-month run at the historic 13th Street Repertory Theatre, beginning July 5th, 2018. The theater, one of the longest operating theatrical venues in New York City, has seen a recent resurrection of sorts with a stronger line-up of productions in the last year, including several AEA-approved productions, is now the beneficiary of a newly reconstructed stage thanks to a major donation by Bahr Productions.
It's been described by The New York Times as the 'Little Theatre That Could,' and with its charm and historic aura, as well as its very visible street level location, the 13th Street Repertory Theatre was chosen by BAHR Productions, a Hollywood-based Film production company, as the launching pad for a new project that looks to be headed Off-Broadway, and then a very much anticipated Broadway run. The play is BEFORE WE'RE GONE, by Jerry Small, and the mission is to debut the drama in New York City with an Off-Broadway run that has spared no expenses and gathered an exceptionally talented cast to this newly renovated stage (courtesy of Bahr Productions) beginning July 5th and closing on August 5th, 2018.
