Previews begin tonight, Monday, November 21, 2022, for A Sherlock Carol written and directed by Mark Shanahan (The Dingdong, A Merry Little Christmas Carol; NPR’s Ghost Light Series).  The show is playing a six-week limited holiday engagement at New World Stages.

A Sherlock Carol, a holiday production by Mark Shanahan, returns to New World Stages (340 West 50th Street) for a six-week limited holiday engagement. Previews begin Monday, November 21, 2022, with opening night on Monday, November 28, 2022, and the final performance on Sunday, January 1, 2023. 

Congo Square Theatre Company (Congo Square), one of the nation's premier African American theatres, will present the third season of its popular Hit 'Em on the Blackside (HOTB) sketch comedy series.

A Sherlock Carol, written and directed by Mark Shanahan, will return this holiday season at New World Stages for a six-week limited engagement. Broadway favorite Drew McVety (Billy Elliot, Spamalot) returns as the titular sleuth, with Allen Gilmore (The School for Scandal, Yale Rep’s Choir Boy) joining the company as Scrooge.

What did our critic think of ARSENIC AND OLD LACE at Court Theatre? Joseph Kesselring's 1941 play ARSENIC AND OLD LACE combines farce, explicitly dark comedy, and a little murder. Director Ron OJ Parson's decision to envision the central Brewster family as a wealthy Black American family gives the play a modern twist.

Court Theatre begins its 2022/23 season with Arsenic and Old Lace by Joseph Kesselring, directed by Ron OJ Parson. Arsenic and Old Lace runs September 2 – October 2, 2022 at Court Theatre, 5535 S. Ellis Ave. The press opening is Saturday, September 10, 2022 at 7:30pm.

Congo Square Theatre Company, one of the nation’s premier African American ensemble theater companies, has announced an expanded 2022-23 season. The company will present a downtown remount of its powerful production, What to Send Up When It Goes Down, in addition to the World Premiere of How Blood Go, and more.

The Classical Theatre of Harlem, a professional theater company that has brought audiences Black artistic excellence for over two decades, announced casting today for its upcoming production of Shakespeare's Twelfth Night at Marcus Garvey Park in East Harlem July 5-29.

Westport Country Playhouse will present a Script in Hand playreading of “The Scream: A Musical Comedy Fantasy,” on Monday, June 13, at 7 p.m. The live performance will be captured on film for on-demand streaming, from Thursday, June 16 through Sunday, June 19. Script in Hand playreadings offer intimate storytelling as professional actors bring the words to life without sets or costumes.

Tarell Alvin McCraney's CHOIR BOY, playing at Yale Repertory Theatre through April 23, is directed by the prodigiously talented Christopher D. Betts; Betts has created a terrific production, for the most part, with outstanding acting, singing, and scenic, lighting, and costume design. The play itself has some predictable elements, but for the most part Betts' interpretation makes for a thought-provoking and moving experience.
