Trompe L’Oeil is a French phrase meaning trick of the eye, or optical illusion. Coincidentally, when said out loud it sounds rather a lot like ‘Trump loyal’. Most people who notice this similarity would likely shrug it off and move on with their day. Henry Parkman Biggs, however, decided it would be the perfect title for a musical bewilderingly combining a satire of Trump’s presidency with visuals of Surrealist art, and also, according to the show description, a queer love story.

The cast has been announced for 'Trompe L'Oeil', which sees cabaret, queer theatre and politics collide in a tongue-in-cheek musical inspired by famous surrealist pieces of art such as The Escherian Stairwell, Magritte's apples and Salvador Dali's melting clocks.

Musician and lyricist Robert Hyman dedicated this adaptation of the classic tale, Cinderella, to the late and much-admired performer, Jo Melville. She once said, 'there's nothing like this, that sheer euphoria that theatre, that panto can give' and yes, hats off to that.

Following the success of previous live streams of Red Riding Hood, Dick Whittington and Rapunzel to East London charities, Theatre Royal Stratford East will once again make their annual panto, this year Cinderella, available online to local hospitals, hospices and care homes.

Theatre Royal Stratford East has announced the full cast for this year's pantomime, CINDERELLA. The cast includes Kathryn Bond as Sphinx, Wesley Bozonga as Marc Antony, Micah Holmes as Chrishell, Gracie McGonigal as Cinderella, Tendai Rinomhota as Amanza, Alex Wadham as Caesar and Gigi Zahir as Cleopatra, with musicians Sara Farina and Perry Melius.

Originally premiering on Broadway in 2000, the musical production of The Full Monty is a respectfully adapted version of the 1997 film about a group of unemployed men who decide to become strippers for a night to raise money. Surprisingly, the more recently produced play didn't reach the stage until 2013. A triumph in itself, the musical is lesser known but works equally as well, despite the fact the location has been moved to Buffalo in the States. The Old Joint Stock in Birmingham have produced their version of the show, which officially opened last night.
