CBS Sunday Morning presented three separate Broadway segments on this morning's program, including highlighting Tina: The Tina Turner Musical, David Byrne (American Utopia), and Diana.

Tina - The Tina Turner Musical is rollin' back to Broadway! Rehearsals are underway for the Tony-nominated hit, which is led by Adrienne Warren in the title role, with Daniel J. Watts as Ike, Dawnn Lewis as Zelma, Nkeki Obi-Melekwe as Tina Turner at some performances, Tony Award nominee Myra Lucretia Taylor as Gran Georgeanna and Jessica Rush as Rhonda.

Katrina Lenk has joined BIRDLAND’s benefit concert for “Darkness RISING” the Broadway Cast of Company, tonight Monday, September 20 at 7:00 PM. “Darkness RISING” provides direct mental health resources for the community, as well as for Broadway show company members.

Throughout the week, the show featured performances by Jeremy Jordan and the cast of off-Broadway's Little Shop of Horrors, Adrienne Warren, Ben Platt, the queens of Six, and Lindsay Pearce and Ginna Claire Mason of Wicked.

BroadwayWorld has learned that Katrina Lenk has joined the previously announced benefit concert for Darkness RISING, set for tonight, September 20, at Birdland Jazz Club.

Adrienne Warren has won the 2020 Tony Award for Best Performance by an Actress in a Leading Role in a Musical for TINA: THE TINA TURNER MUSICAL.

Broadway Week continued this evening on The Tonight Show! As Jimmy Fallon announced last week, the show will be celebrating Broadway's return during each episode this week. Next up, Adrienne Warren sang Private Dancer, which Fallon requested last week!

Need some help predicting the winners? I have attempted to predict about half of these categories (mainly the musical theatre categories since I was not able to see the majority of the plays in the 2019-2020 season), and have provided some rationale for each category. Of course, all the nominees deserve awards, but only one can win in each.

Stage Entertainment, James L. Nederlander and Tali Pelman, in association with Tina Turner, have announced that Tina - The Tina Turner Musical will star Nkeki Obi-Melekwe in the title role  beginning Tuesday, November 2, 2021. An original Broadway cast member, Nkeki Obi-Melekwe played Tina in the West End production and plays Tina at certain performances in the Broadway production as the Tina alternate.  

The cast of the new Broadway production of Company will present a benefit concert for Darkness RISING on Monday, September 20 at 7 PM ET at Birdland Jazz Club (315 West 44th Street).

Broadway lovers from all boroughs came to hear the music play in Brooklyn yesterday. Elsie Fest, Broadway's outdoor music festival, returned at the 2021 BRIC Celebrate Brooklyn! Festival. Now in its 6th year, the event was founded by Darren Criss and celebrates stars and songs from the stage and screen.

By this point, it feels like every major musical name has produced some kind of “pandemic project”. With Tom Kitt & The Collective's new album, Reflect, there’s a refreshing lack of gimmick to it.
