The Kennedy Center's Performances for Young Audiences season is back, and it kicked off with a world premiere adaptation of the young adult fantasy classic A Wind in the Door. The whirlwind performance brings the novel's unique blend of sci-fi and whimsical poetry to life.

Pomegranate Room will present their inaugural audio play festival, Echoes: Stories from Mythology. Five one-act audio dramas feature modern retellings of stories from Chinese, Greek, and Norse mythology and folklore. Each story 'echoes' its original with a lens reflective of the world today.

a?oeJust Arts: A Celebration of Arts and Activisma?? kicks off on Friday, October 9 streaming at 7:00 pm with an episode dedicated to one of four featured weekly social justice pillars, a?oeEquitya?? curated by Nicole A. Watson.

Adventure Theatre MTC presents a celebration of API Heritage with a full lineup of API Heritage Month storytimes, interviews, and digital presentations. These online events honor the creativity, tradition, and innovation of the Asian Pacific Islander population and focus upon the impact they continue to make daily through their art. All presentations are free and available streaming live on Facebook. 

Adventure Theatre MTC has announced the second extension of its current production The Snowy Day and Other Stories by Ezra Jack Keats, now showing until April 11, 2020. Based on the series of books that broke the color barrier in children's literature, it tells the story of Peter who works through everyday challenges in childhood. A recent article in The New York Times declared that Ezra Jack Keats's The Snowy Day and Other Stories is the most widely borrowed book in the Big Apple's public library collection. It's popular not only for the way it evokes the wonder and innocence of childhood but for breaking the color barrier in children's literature.

Theory is an interesting show with a strong cast and solid technical elements. It raises some valid questions about living our ideals and the limitations we set (or don't) on ourselves and others in public, but it never quite figures out how to go beyond that. Still, it opens conversations about these issues, and pushes audiences to reconsider their own perspectives, and there's certainly value in that.

Mosaic Theater Company of DC presents the second offering in its 'Stages of Awakening' Season 5 with the American premiere of Theory by Norman Yeung, directed by Associate Artistic Director, Victoria Murray Baatin, making her Mosaic directorial debut.  The play, Winner of Canada's Herman Voaden National Playwriting Competition and produced to acclaim at Toronto's Tarragon Theatre last fall, runs at the Atlas Performing Arts Center from October 23 through November 17, 2019.  Opening press night takes place Monday, October 28 at 7:30 pm following 5 preview performances, including a full Pay-What-You- Can performance October 23, with additional Pay-What-You-Can tickets available throughout the preview period. 

Mosaic Theater Company of DC launches its 5th season this month with the DC premiere of Lynn Nottage's Fabulation, Or The Re-Education of Undine, previewing August 21 (see our August 1 Fabulation press release for opening night information, and our March 29 a?oe#Wokeseason5a?? release for full season line-up), exactly one month after the close of the most successful show in Mosaic's history, the co-production of Kelvin Roston Jr.'s Twisted Melodies, which sold out its last week of performances, playing to record crowds and box office, providing the capstone to a season of transformative artistic and fundraising achievements. 

Talk about 'Freaky Friday.' Brett Abelman's new play 'Switch,' at Fringe Logan Arts Space, is more like 'Freaky Pride Weekend.' A straight D.C. couple matched up by their mutual genderqueer friend find themselves in the afterglow of intimacy having switched bodies and hence gender. The balance of the play is exploring the abrupt switch amid Pride Weekend and trying to figure out how or whether they should try to switch back.

Keegan Theatre's world premiere play Mack,Beth teaches us a few things about how not to do a modern adaptation of William Shakespeare's Scottish play.

Rorschach Theatre often tackles strange and sometimes difficult productions, and A BID TO SAVE THE WORLD fits right in with that lineup. My mind hurts nicely from all the thinking in what is a surprisingly cerebral experience. Written by Erin Bregman and directed by Lee Liebeskind, the play explores death and saving the world with a light hand and an intellectual cudgel.
