BIO
Patricia Heaton is an Emmy Award–winning actress and producer best known for her work in television comedy. She studied drama at Ohio State University before moving to New York City in 1980 to train with acting teacher William Esper. She made her Broadway debut in the chorus of Don’t Get God Started (1987) and later co-founded the off-Broadway troupe Stage Three.
Heaton began her screen career with guest roles on series including Thirtysomething, Alien Nation, and Matlock, along with early film appearances in Memoirs of an Invisible Man and Beethoven. After several short-lived sitcoms, she achieved major success in 1996 when she was cast as Debra Barone opposite Ray Romano in Everybody Loves Raymond. The series ran for nine seasons and earned widespread acclaim, with Heaton winning two Primetime Emmy Awards for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series.
Following Everybody Loves Raymond, Heaton continued to work steadily in television and film, including starring roles in TV movies such as The Goodbye Girl and producing projects through her company, FourBoys Entertainment. She also appeared on stage in The Scene and in series like Back to You.
From 2009 to 2018, Heaton starred as Frankie Heck in the ABC sitcom The Middle, which ran for nine seasons and further cemented her reputation as a leading comedic actress. She later hosted the Food Network series Patricia Heaton Parties, which won a Daytime Emmy Award.
More recently, Heaton has starred in the CBS comedy Carol's Second Act, appeared in films such as Mending the Line, and taken on new television roles including a recurring part in Frasier. In addition to acting, she is also an author, releasing Your Second Act, and continues to work across television, film, and production.
