Alan Gilbert extends contract as Music Director of Royal Swedish Opera Through 2029

Alan Gilbert has renewed his contract as Music Director of the Royal Swedish Opera through the end of 2029, with the option of a further extension. Gilbert, a Grammy Award winner for Best Opera Recording, has held the post since 2021 and was named Royal Court Kapellmeister by the King of Sweden in 2022.

Richard Strauss’s DIE FRAU OHNE SCHATTEN (THE WOMAN WITHOUT A SHADOW), with a libretto by his long-time collaborator, Hugo von Hofmannsthal, has made a triumphant return to the Met with a stellar cast and the Met Orchestra in peak form under Yannick Nezet-Seguin. It dazzled and glowed like few other evenings in recent memory, in a production by Herbert Wernicke, who died young, not long after its debut in 2001.
San Francisco Opera Medal Awarded To Director Michael Cavanagh

The acclaimed Canadian opera director, who passed away on March 13 from leptomeningeal cancer at the age of 62, was a guiding, creative force behind a number of important new productions for San Francisco Opera over the past decade.

San Francisco Opera Reveals Program For One-Night-Only Centennial Concert Celebration

San Francisco Opera announced the program for its 100th Anniversary Concert at the War Memorial Opera House on Friday, June 16. Caroline H. Hume Music Director Eun Sun Kim, former Music Director Sir Donald Runnicles and former Principal Guest Conductor Patrick Summers will conduct the San Francisco Opera Orchestra and Chorus along with a host of star soloists in selections inspired by the Company's history.
