Mary Stuart Masterson

Mary Stuart Masterson made her film debut in The Stepford Wives (1975). After focusing on her education, she returned to acting in Heaven Help Us (1985), followed by roles in At Close Range (1986), Some Kind of Wonderful (1987), Gardens of Stone (1987), Chances Are (1989), and Immediate Family (1989). She received the National Board of Review Award for Best Supporting Actress for her performance in Immediate Family.

During the 1990s, Masterson starred in Fried Green Tomatoes (1991), Benny & Joon (1993), Bad Girls (1994), and Bed of Roses (1996). In addition to acting, she wrote a screenplay for the romantic comedy Around the Block in the early 1990s.

By the early 2000s, Masterson expanded into directing and producing. She made her directing debut with the segment "The Other Side" in the television film On the Edge (2001) and produced the CBS series Kate Brasher (2001). She portrayed Dr. Helen Taussig in the HBO film Something the Lord Made (2004) and appeared as Dr. Rebecca Hendrix in five episodes of Law & Order: Special Victims Unit (2004–2007). She later had a recurring role as FBI Director Eleanor Hirst in Blindspot (2016–2017), starred in the first season of For Life (2020), and appeared in Five Nights at Freddy's (2023).

Masterson appeared on Broadway in the musical Nine, earning a Tony Award nomination for Best Featured Actress in a Musical. She also narrated several audiobooks, including I See You Everywhere, Book of the Dead, The Quickie, and Look Again.

She made her feature film directorial debut with The Cake Eaters (2007), which premiered at the Ft. Lauderdale International Film Festival and won the Audience Award for Dramatic Feature at the Ashland Independent Film Festival in 2008.
