HAIR and More Set for University of Texas at Arlington Theatre Arts and Dance Department Season

UTA Theatre Arts and Dance begins the fall semester with two contemporary plays presented in repertory in the Studio Theatre. Will Powers 2018 play, Seize the King, is a contemporary adaptation of Shakespeare's Richard III seen through an Afrofuturist lens. Guest director Jiles King is excited for the challenges this play will bring to UTA Acting students, particularly the plays ' combination of contemporary and poetic language.' Seize the King opens September 19th in the Studio Theatre, running for four performances.

Gina Galati’s wonderful Winter Opera company continues its 17th season with Puccini’s Manon Lescaut. This work, which opened in 1893, was Puccini’s first great hit. It was rather daring of Puccini to present this piece, based as it was on a novel that had already been adapted to opera by two other composers—first by Daniel Aubert (1856), and then in a hugely successful work by Jules Massenet 1884.

Dream Theatre's production of Mamma Mia opened to rave reviews last weekend where it played to record crowds at The Union County Performing Arts Center in Rahway. The cast was led by Gabrielle Mirabella as Donna, Kim Shriver (Tanya), Jennifer Cody (Rosie), Michael Hunsaker (Sam Carmichael) and Adam Kaster (Bill Austin). The supporting cast included Stephanie Ann Christian (Sophie), Nathaniel Dolquist (Sky), Rachel Anne Raeon (Lisa) Kathleen Claire McGrath (Ali), Brett Hennessey Jones (Pepper) and Danny Sims (Eddie).
