BIO

DAVID GLENN ARMSTRONG has staged over 160 productions/workshops seen in 49 states including work at the NY Shakespeare Festival, Goodspeed Opera, Walnut Street, Manhattan Theatre Club, Library of Congress, Inge Festival, Chicago Humanities Festival, Amas, HERE, York Theatre, New Dramatists, Pacific Repertory Opera, Mason Street Warehouse, Arkansas Rep, NYMF, Riverside Theatre, Anchorage Opera, Iowa Shakespeare Festival, and NY Fringe. Favorite premieres include Sheldon Harnick's A Doctor in Spite of Himself (Jeff McCarthy, Jose Llana, Burke Moses, Anthony Rapp, John Schuck, Elena Shaddow, Patrick Richwood), Judith Steir's Only a Kingdom (Max von Essen, Jill Paice, Donna Lynne Champlin), Carey Ramos/Lamont Dozier's Many Happy Returns (Matt Cavenaugh, Jenny Powers, Nick Wyman), Joan Ross Sorkin's (mis)Understanding Mammy (Drama Desk nominee Capathia Jenkins); Sorkin/Steven Fisher's In the Theatre (Beth Fowler, Judy Kaye); Ed Dixon's Scenery (Lynne Wintersteller); and Jonathan Larson's Saved! An Immoral Musical on the Moral Majority (also co-author, ASCAP Award). Favorite first-ever revivals include Bock/Harnick/Stein's The Body Beautiful (Brad Oscar, Megan Lawrence); Arlen/Gershwin/Harburg's Life Begins at 8:40 (Faith Prince, Kate Baldwin, Rebecca Luker, Montego Glover, Jessica Stone, Philip Chafin, Christopher Fitzgerald, Graham Rowat,); Lerner & Loewe's The Day Before Spring (Amanda Watkins, Hunter Bell, Ed Watts); and most specially, dear Joe Stein's Plain and Fancy (Cady Huffman, Charlotte Rae, Nancy Anderson). David was born in a tiny Iowa farm town, raised in western Michigan and central Virginia, graduated from Adelphi University on Long Island, and now spends a lot of time in his Upper West Side backyard, Central Park, with Rufus, the most amazing Brussels Griffon ever.

The York Theatre Company (James Morgan, Producing Artistic Director; Evans Haile, Executive Director), dedicated to the development of new musicals and rediscovery of musical gems from the past, as part of its 50th Anniversary season celebration, will present two special events during the month of January: A York Chat: '50 Years of The York,' first in a series of panel discussions, and a staged concert of the 1969 Broadway musical Celebration written by the legendary songwriting team Harvey Schmidt and Tom Jones. Both special events will take place at The York Theatre Company at Saint Peter's (entrance on East 54th Street, just east of Lexington Avenue).

The York Theatre Company presented a one-night only concert version of the newly re-imagined version of the beloved Broadway hit musical I Do! I Do!, with book and lyrics by Tom Jones and music by Harvey Schmidt, based on the play The Fourposter by Jan de Hartog, directed by York Theatre favorite David Glenn Armstrong and with music direction by David Hancock Turner, accompanied on piano by Evans Haile.  This special one-of-a-kind evening kicked off an eighteen-month celebration of The York Theatre Company's landmark 50th Anniversary.

The York Theatre Company, dedicated to the development of new musicals and preserving musical gems from the past, partners with producers Amy Engelhardt and Heather Shields to present the third installment of the new game show for musical theater lovers called Tune in Time, hosted by Emily McNamara, music direction by Nate Buccieri, with Sheila Head as the annoyingly insistent timekeeper, on Tuesday, November 11 at The York Theatre Company's home at Saint Peters (Citicorp Building, entrance on East 54th Street, just east of Lexington Avenue). The fourth and final installment in the 2014 series is set for Tuesday, December 2. All performances begin at 7:30 p.m.
