York Theatre Company's MALPRACTICE MAKES PERFECT Begins Performances Tonight

The York Theatre Company (James Morgan, Producing Artistic Director; Andrew Levine, Executive Director) continues the Winter 2014 Musicals in Mufti Series Celebrating Sheldon Harnick with Malpractice Makes Perfect with Book, Music and Lyrics by Sheldon Harnick. The creative team includes direction by David Glenn Armstrong, music direction by Amanda Morton, and casting by Geoff Josselson.

The nine-member cast features David Ayers (Wicked, Fiddler on the Roof), Christina Bianco (Forbidden Broadway, NEWSical, The Musical), Tony Award-winner Cady Huffman (The Nance, The Producers), Two-Time Tony Award-nominee Robin de Jesús (In the Heights, La Cage aux Folles), Tony Award-nominee Megan Lawrence (The Pajama Game, Hair), Tony Award-nominee Brad Oscar (Big Fish, The Producers), Robb Sapp (Wicked, Shrek), Conrad John Schuck (Nice Work If You Can Get It, Annie), and Nick Wyman (Catch Me If You Can, A Tale of Two Cities).

The limited engagement will play 5 performances ONLY February 14-16, 2014 at The York Theatre Company at Saint Peter's (Entrance on East 54th Street, just east of Lexington Avenue).

Malpractice Makes Perfect, with book, music and lyrics by Sheldon Harnick, is based on the Moliere's classic comedy of manners, The Doctor in Spite of Himself. A musical comedy whose classic plot devices lead to hilarious ends, Harnick's adaptation tells the story of a woodcutter manipulated by his spiteful wife to impersonate a brilliant doctor. Called to an emergency case-- a lovely young woman who feigns sickness to avoid her impending marriage-- the "doctor" prescribes a perfect remedy for an uproarious situation. Mix in a cast of eccentrics, and the comic antics build to a climactic resolution.

"A joyful new musical for which Sheldon Harnick wrote everything -- he even did his own translation from Moliere's original French version!" The performance schedule for Malpractice Makes Perfect is Friday, February 14 at 8:00 p.m., Saturday, February 15 at *2:30 p.m. & 8:00 p.m., and Sunday, February 16 at *2:30 p.m. & 7:30 p.m. (*audience discussions follow the matinee performances).

The York Theatre Company's acclaimed Musicals in Mufti series of musical theatre gems, in a simply-staged, book-in-hand concert format, has presented over 90 shows from the past in its twenty-ninth year history. Mufti means: "in street clothes, without the trappings associated with a full production."

The Winter 2014 Musicals in Mufti Series will continue with Smiling, The Boy Fell Dead (February 21-23) and Tenderloin (March 7-9) at The York Theatre Company at its home in Saint Peter's (Entrance on East 54th Street, just east of Lexington Avenue).

The 2013-2014 season York Theatre season continues with the world premiere of a new musical, Inventing Mary Martin, conceived, written and directed by Stephen Cole, with music supervision and arrangements by David Krane and co-directed and choreographed by Bob Richard. Performances are set to begin Tuesday, April 15 for a limited engagement through Sunday, May 18 at York Theatre Company at Saint Peter's. Casting will be announced shortly.
