Improvised Scene Productions Presents BETTY BROWN FOR PRESIDENT

Improvised Scene Productions has developed a screen story (a.k.a. "treatment") that has gotten great feedback from both within and outside of the Hollywood film community. "Betty Brown for President!" is a comedy like nothing else you've ever read and provides a blueprint for a brilliant satire on American politics. "Betty Brown" imagines that a series of outrageous, yet logical, circumstances conspired to propel the unlikely candidate "Betty Brown" to the presidency 40 years ago, in 1976. This story has been compared favorably to the creations of the Coen and Farelly Brothers by many who have read it.

Bellamy Mansion Emerging Artist Show Announces Artists Call

Historic Bellamy Mansion Museum of History and Design Arts is excited to launch the First Emerging Artist Show & Sale and Art Celebration, October 2 through November 6, 2014 in its charming mansion in the heart of the downtown historic overlay district. The show will open Thursday, October 2 with a reception at 6:00 p.m. They are seeking submissions of artwork that showcase the beauty of the Bellamy using its history and architecture as inspiration. Artists will create original works, for show and sale, which will hang in the mansion for five weeks as part of a month-long celebration of the visual arts. The celebration will also feature children's art events and art lectures by local professional artists from a variety of mediums, free to the public. 'We have many wonderful, seasoned and professional artists in Wilmington, but there is also so much undiscovered talent here, and this is the perfect opportunity for new and amateur artists to make a statement,' says Toni Radcliffe, chairperson for the event. The Bellamy Mansion Emerging Artist Show is open to all artists 18 years of age and older. Artists may submit Original two-dimensional (2-D) work to include painting, pastel, drawing, printmaking, photography, digital imaging, fiber art, mosaics and mixed media, and three-dimensional (3-D) work. Since this show focuses on emerging artists, the artist must have no more than five years creating in the particular discipline submitted. 70 percent of the proceeds of the sale will go to the artist, with 30 percent donated to the Bellamy Mansion. There is a non-refundable entry fee of $20 for non-students and $10 for part-time or full-time students of an accredited school. Artists will have access to The Mansion any Monday from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. or by appointment. As part of Bellamy's mission to give exposure to outstanding, under-known artists, it will offer monetary awards as well as merit, honorable mention, and People's Choice awards. The ballots will be tallied, and awards given at the closing party on November 6. 'We are thrilled to award prizes at our inaugural event,' says Ms. Radcliffe. 'Our hope is that the Bellamy Mansion Emerging Artist Show will provide recognition and encouragement at a pivotal moment in an artist's career.' The exhibition will be juried by Joanne Geisel and Gale Smith, accomplished visual artists and teachers. All accepted entries will be posted September 15, 2014 at www.bellamymansion.org. Joanne Geisel has a bachelor's degree in art education and Master's in Public Administration. She continued her art education through workshops and college courses. Joanne worked in the field of adult education for over 16 years. Since moving to North Carolina, Joanne has immersed herself in art through oil painting, exhibiting and teaching art. This past summer, she studied with Robert Longley at the Cape Cod School of Art in Provincetown, MA and also studied with Lois Griffel, the former director of the Cape Cod School of Art. Her art studies have continued in workshops with Charles Reid, David Dunlop, Morgan Samuel Price, Rick McClure, Judy Crane, Betty Brown and other naturally acclaimed instructors. Prior to becoming a full time oil painter, Gale served as head of design for a large Architectural and Engineering firm in NC. She has served as Chair and Co-Chair of the Wilmington Art Association's Annual Spring Show and Sale for two years. They ask all artists to send electronic images of their work to beallamyartshow@gmail.com no later than August 30, 2014. Images must be in JPEG format at a resolution of 72 dpi, have 2400 pixels for the dimension on the largest side of the image, and not to exceed 2MB. Include the artwork only - no frame, mat, etc. All works submitted will be considered based on their relationship to the theme. All artists and their families are invited to attend the free event celebration and promote their own works. Submittal requirements and applications are available at www.bellamymansion.org, by email at bellamyartshow@gmail.com or by calling 910-251-3700.
