Under the new artistic direction of Emily Molnar, Ballet BC returns to the NAC to present a program of ambitious contemporary ballets from the world’s leading choreographers. Herman Schmerman showcases William Forsythe’s trademark synchronistic style. Performed on pointe, the non-narrative work plays on the extraordinary physicality of ballet partnering and dance itself. 1st Flash, by Jorma Elo, is a highly musical, frenetically-paced piece originally created for Nederlands Dans Theater. Medhi Walerski’s Petite Cérémonie was constructed by asking what ‘life in a box’ meant to company members, and explores restriction as both constraint and opportunity.
