Based on the real Newsboys’ Strike of 1899 and adapted from the 1992 movie. Homeless newsboy Jack Kelly, who dreams of a better life out west, befriends two newcomers to the trade, Davey Jacobs and his young brother, Les. When publisher Joseph Pulitzer raises the cost of the papers the newsies buy to hawk on the streets of New York, the boys go on strike to demand a place at the table and a say in their own futures. With the help of young journalist Katherine Plumber, Jack and the newsies take their strike to the entire city, commanding the attention and respect of everyone from Pulitzer to the Governor of New York. ORLANDO AREA AMATEUR PREMIER. A new musical drama with Music by Alan Menken, Lyrics by Jack Feldman, and Book by Harvey Fierstein, directed by William Pratesi and Cathy McEachern. Contains mild language and some staged violence.
