On February 16, 1936, Zora Neale Hurston signed the guest register at Harlem's historic 135th Street Library—today's Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture.
Nearly 90 years later, her story returns to the very place where she once left her name.
Join us for a powerful historical homecoming as Executive Producer Caroline Schimmel presents ZORA!, written by multi-AUDELCO Award-winning playwright Laurence Holder, directed by Greg Freelon, and starring NY NAACP Women in the Arts Award recipient Antonia Badón.
Through a remarkable 19-character performance, audiences journey with Zora from Eatonville, Florida, to Howard University, Harlem, Barnard College, Broadway, and beyond—as a young woman with $1.50 and a dream becomes one of America's most influential literary voices.
This is more than a play. It is an opportunity to gather where history happened and become part of the continuing story.

Don't just come see ZORA! Come be present when her story returns home.
History is inviting us back.
