The Smallest Sound, in the Smallest Sound, a new play by Bryce McClendon, follows four graduate-level voice students of Professor Kent Randall, an operatic tenor of international acclaim currently under University investigation for sexual misconduct. Each student has agreed to provide an anonymous statement. As a representative from the University Office of Institutional Compliance interviews the four, their lessons overlay their conversations, combining reality, memory, and imagination as illustrations of Kent’s influence over their memories and testimonies. Produced by The Why Collective and directed by Katy Early, the workshop-premiere of The Smallest Sound, in the Smallest Space runs at Nancy Manocherian’s the cell theatre 7pm March 3, 7pm March 4, and 3pm March 5th, with talkbacks after the Saturday and Sunday performances. This production features many local actors and musicians, including Shah Motia, Heather Jones, Nathaniel LaNasa, Shelly Lynn Walsh, Rachel Policar, Morgan Mastrangelo, Mary-Angela Granberry, Alexander J. Rodriguez, and Ai Chaim Ra.
Nancy Manocherian’s the cell theatre is located at 338 W 23rd St, New York, NY 10011 in Chelsea on 23rd St. between 9th Ave. & 8th Ave. The theater is accessible via the C and E trains at 23rd St. and 8th Ave. as well as the 1 train at 23rd St. and 7th Ave. Tickets range from $25-$75 with limited availability.
