Every Wednesday night a group of passionate musicians gather to share their art. The audience is small but committed and most are performers. This is the other side of fame and notoriety—folks who are doing it for the pure love of the music and to connect on this level with an audience who really listens. The setting is a small, dingy coffee house in the Northwest. Once a week they leave their ordinary life and go to a place where they can help each other to be a star. They are transformed by the interest and support that they offer and receive.
As this typical evening ensues, we meet a pair of young lovers with different visions of what they want from a relationship. We meet an aging musician and groupie who need this place to find each other. A mysterious, but vaguely frightening, proprietor, a modern oracle, and an MC who lives like he is the ultimate rock star. Unfolding in real time, Open Mic is a tribute to the heroes who take their talents public once a week and make live music happen. It pays tribute to musical styles of the past but faces important issues of the present.
The shows stars Tatiana Bahoque (Autumn), Harrison Lewis (Mike), Mackenzie Bruen (Newby & Akuarius), K. 'Devin' Hunter (Joe), Michael Pacholski (Conrad), Kay Saltonstall (Chris), and James Good (JR).
The show was written by Larry Glatt, Ezra Glatt, Ben Glatt, and Jonathan Bryon-Woodin. This production is directed by Laura Renee Mehl and produced by Mackenzie Bruen.
